"We just parted ways" - Former WWE star makes massive disclosure about AEW run
Awesome Kong has wrestled in numerous companies, including AEW, throughout her career. However, she is best known for her time in the WWE, where her on-screen name was Kharma.
Kong had a short stint in All Elite Wrestling from 2019 to 2021. She took part in only five matches during her tenure, with her bout match coming on the January 1, 2020, edition of AEW Dark. When the former Kharma's contract expired, the Tony Khan-led management decided not to extend it.
According to the former TNA Knockouts Champion, there is no animosity between her and the promotion. In a recent interview with Victoire, Kong thanked the organization for continuing to pay her when she couldn't travel to Jacksonville for shows during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"At the beginning of 2019, right from the jump—whenever AEW started, like for real, for real, I was there, okay? (…) I had to leave for a little bit to go shoot GLOW and then, while we were shooting GLOW, the pandemic happened, and because of certain ailments that I have, I could not travel, and God bless them," said Kong.
The powerhouse further disclosed that she parted ways with All Elite Wrestling 'amicably.'
"They paid me way longer than I thought they would or should. God bless ‘em, forever, and we just parted ways, because I couldn’t come back and why keep paying someone? We parted amicably, seriously, and they paid me way longer than I would’ve paid somebody who’s just not coming in a job. I’m just saying, so, yeah."
Many questioned why the former Kharma departed from AEW in 2021 after a short run. However, she clarified that she was on good terms with the company.
