"We don't want you" - Former WWE Intercontinental Champion warns top AEW star after reported contract expiry date emerges
Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Matt Cardona has sent a warning to AEW star Ricky Starks. The Absolute is set to face Cardona soon.
Ricky Starks is one of the top stars in AEW. However, his treatment in the Jacksonville-based promotion has arguably been underwhelming. Following a victory in the 2023 Owen Hart Cup final, many believed that Tony Khan would strap the rocket on Starks. However, The Absolute has not been seen in the promotion since March 2024.
Starks is rumored to join WWE once his contract expires. Meanwhile, a recent report has indicated that the former World Tag Team Champion will likely remain with the company till the spring or the summer of 2025.
The 34-year-old recently made an appearance in GCW and cut a heated promo. He is now set to face Cardona at GCW Highest in the Room. On X/Twitter, The Indy God reacted to the rumor about Ricky Starks being in contract with AEW till 2025.
"Good. Go to @GCWrestling_ then. Don’t come now. We don’t want you."
Matt Cardona also cut a promo on Ricky Starks, mentioning how he was at GCW only because he was not being used on AEW TV. It will be interesting to see how their match turns out.
Ricky Starks on potentially signing with WWE after AEW contract expiry
Ricky Starks' absence from AEW TV has raised many questions. Many expect him to join WWE, as he has been spotted backstage at events hosted by the global juggernaut.
In a recent appearance on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, Ricky Starks revealed that he could end up anywhere and understood the shock factor behind the potential move.
“I could end up anywhere actually. It’s not crazy. I understand it, and definitely get it. Like, you know, you just go where your friends are. Yes, I love my friends. I would like to always see them every day in my life, whether they come to me or whatever the case may be. That’s just how it is in life. You have people that you are cool with, and you’re always gonna have people say, like, well, you’re gonna do that because of this person. It’s like, Well, damn, yeah, I can’t act on my own accord.” (H/T: chrisvanvliet.com)
Fans will have to wait and see when Ricky Starks returns to All Elite Wrestling television.
