Why did Drew McIntyre delete the Jack Perry photo? Exploring the potential reasons
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk are scheduled to lock horns at SummerSlam 2024, which will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. The feud between the two superstars has been developing for the past few months and the aforementioned showdown will probably conclude their dispute. However, there is a possibility that their rivalry will continue even after the PLE.
Drew McIntyre's recent X (formerly Twitter) game has been ruthless. He does not stand back in making the world know of what's going through his mind and lately, he has been throwing jabs at his SummerSlam opponent. Recently, to mock Punk, the former WWE Champion posted a picture of himself with the AEW TNT Champion Jack Perry. Loyal fans of the Jacksonville promotion are aware of the conflict between Punk and Perry, and most importantly, their backstage altercation at All In last year. Additionally, the caption for this McIntryre put was ‘cry me a river.’
Interestingly, this picture has now been taken down. At first, there were speculations that the reason McIntyre deleted that photo was because Punk had a problem with it. However, that is not the case. According to WRKD Wrestling, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre are working very closely to develop their feud, and Punk himself has allowed McIntyre to reference his past AEW issues.
"While Drew McIntyre deleted his photo with Jack Perry, there is zero concern of any backstage heat. McIntyre and CM Punk are working closely to craft their feud and all references to past AEW or backstage issues have been given the green light by Punk ahead of time."
It has also been speculated that McIntyre posting the photo and taking it down was all a work to continue his story and avoid issues that would lead to negative PR.
Drew McIntyre could have deleted his photo with Jack Perry to avoid backlash from AEW fans
While it is widely believed that the purpose of Drew McIntyre posting a picture with Perry was to make fun of Punk, a few AEW fans weren't too happy about it.
Earlier this week at Blood & Guts, the AEW TNT Champion took brutal chair shots to the head, while competing in the Blood & Guts Match. Perry was representing Team Elite, and the chair shot was delivered to him by Team AEW's Mark Briscoe. The sound from the impact was loud, and this led fans to believe that the chair was real. However, popular wrestling journalist Bryan Alvarez confirmed that the chair was "shaved down" so that Perry wouldn't face a severe injury.
“I can tell you this, it was one of the shaved-down chairs. I don’t know how shaved down that is. I don’t know how soft that is. It was a gimmicked chair. Still, they waffled that dude with that chair,” said Alvarez [H/T: Ringside News]
Nevertheless, some fans of the Jacksonville promotion believe that McIntyre's picture with Jack Perry was intended to mock the AEW star for the brutal Blood & Guts spot he was a part of.
