Wrestling legend calls Tony Khan "petty" for not letting Lucha Bros. leave AEW for WWE - "Nothing that I do will ever change him"

Tony Khan has reportedly refused to release Lucha Bros. from their AEW contract so that they can join WWE. A wrestling legend has now given his thoughts on this matter.

Konnan was the latest to comment on the Lucha Bros. contract situation. The tag team has fallen off the radar in recent years in the Jacksonville-based company. After a disappointing few months in the promotion this year, the duo haven't been seen on AEW TV since the July 17 episode of Rampage.

Many fans had been left disappointed since the Lucha Brothers are arguably one of the best tag teams in the world. Even WWE seem to be interested in them and there were rumors that they could be headed to the Stamford-based promotion once their contract expires. However, Tony Khan has seemingly put a stop to those possibilities for the moment by extending Penta El Zero Miedo's contract by a few months, due to injury time.

On the other hand, Rey Fenix's contract was extended for a longer time period due to multiple injuries he'd suffered over the years. This has prevented them from signing with the WWE. Speaking on his Keepin' It 100 Official podcast, Konnan called Tony Khan "petty" for not letting the Lucha Bros. leave the company for greener pastures.

"He's already petty. He's a self-check. Nothing that I do will ever change him. He is what he is," he said. [1:32 - 1:38]

EC3 believes the Lucha Bros. will sell a lot of merchandise if they move to WWE

Lucha Bros. is one of the most popular tag teams in the world. They are known for their unique daredevil offense which could make them stand out on WWE's main roster, should they ever manage to sign them.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, EC3 said that the duo would sell more merchandise due to their unique look and presentation.

"If you've done something for a long time and you seek a new challenge, it is a new challenge for them to go to the WWE, so different audience, different scheduling, different presentation. You know, probably has that intrigue. Money's probably really good. A marketing machine because, take wrestling away, they're both charismatic individuals with unique looks and outfits and gear and presentation, so immediately they look cool as action figures. They look cool to kids," he said. [2:16 – 2:49]
