Wrestling veteran wants Tony Khan to push this former WWE champion in AEW
Tony Khan recently signed several former WWE stars to AEW. The wrestling promoter brought in names like Ricochet, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley during the last four months. While Ricochet is currently riding solo, MVP has rebranded The Hurt Business as The Hurt Syndicate with Benjamin and Lashley.
All four men were present at Full Gear in New Jersey this past weekend. The November 23 pay-per-view event saw Ricochet fail to beat Konosuke Takeshita for the AEW International Championship. Lashley, on the other hand, defeated former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland via technical submission in the penultimate match on the card.
Meanwhile, veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter recently stated that Lashley looked dominant in his performance against Strickland. During a recent edition of Live Q&A on Backstage Pass, Apter responded to a fan question as to how Tony Khan could fix his product, noting Khan had a performer in Lashley to be AEW's "franchise player!"
Apter said:
''They [AEW] have something in the mist right now that could bring the temperature up again. And I don't know if it's going to work or if they're gonna blow it. They've got an opportunity for Bobby Lashley to become the franchise star. Bobby Lashley is the type of world champion; you put the belt on him; when he walks into a room with his suit, he looks like an athlete. No knock to Jon Moxley; he does great. But he doesn't look like a world champion!" [16:40 onwards]
The 79-year-old added that Tony Khan's company was majorly lacking when it came to attractions the casual fanbase was familiar with, noting the promotion should capitalize on booking Lashley as its world champion due to his superstar status.
"When Bobby Lashley comes out to wrestle, you look at his body; he looks like an athlete. They do not have one focal point guy. WWE has a lot of focal point guys. When you ask casual fans about AEW, they are like, 'I'm not sure who's there.' Lashley has been a major, major star, and he hasn't lost an aura whatsoever. On the Full Gear pay-per-view, the way he wiped out Swerve Strickland; they need to put the belt on him," Apter added. [17:17 onwards]
Bobby Lashley isn't scheduled to compete on tonight's Dynamite, but The All Mighty is expected to appear alongside MVP for Shelton Benjamin's match against Mark Briscoe in the Continental Classic Blue League first-round match-up.
Sportskeeda Wrestling will have full coverage of Dynamite when it airs on November 27.
