"Why would you want to do something like that" - WWE Hall of Famer questions AEW boss Tony Khan's decision
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T is surprised at Tony Khan's decision to book Ring Of Honor in addition to booking AEW.
Khan's recent announcement that he's purchased ROH has shaken the foundations of the wrestling industry. Initially, it was unclear what the terms of the deal were or what the future entailed for Tony Khan and ROH.
In subsequent days, Tony Khan stated that he would play an important role in booking Ring Of Honor, something that WWE legend Booker T thinks may be a mistake. On his Hall Of Fame podcast, the six-time world champion questioned the AEW President's decision to book ROH shows:
“Well, I don’t understand the idea of Tony Khan saying he’s going to book the shows at ROH,” Booker T said. “Because you’ve already got a company over here. Why would you want to do something like that, first of all? There again, it’s just going to be us doing shows. Why do something like that when you’ve got a company over here that does shows? I don’t get it, I don’t understand it. But maybe here in the future, we will all know exactly what the hell is going on.” (h/t: WrestlingInc)
Booker T thinks it will be difficult for Tony Khan to balance both AEW's and ROH's rosters
Booker T believes AEW has a loaded roster but creating a similar roster for ROH would be a major challenge for Tony Khan. In the same episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, the former WWE Superstar said:
“With wrestling, there again, when I have just about every wrestler under my banner out there on my programming, which is AEW, why would I try to fuel another roster? That’s what I am talking about. That part right there is the hardest part, I think, in wrestling, creating the show through and having really, really good wrestlers on the show. When you’ve got them all, what are you going to get them?” (h/t: WrestlingInc)
AEW has a number of huge names like CM Punk and Bryan Danielson who are synonymous with Ring Of Honor. Some of the best moments of their wrestling careers came in that promotion, and those are things many younger fans might not be aware of.
If Tony Khan is able to secure a streaming deal for ROH's video library in addition to restarting the promotion's live shows, the purchase could end up paying off big.
