WWE legend opens up about tragic Owen Hart incident: "They wheeled his body right beside me"
A WWE legend opened up about the tragic Owen Hart incident and recalled what happened in the immediate aftermath. This will no doubt bring a tear to the eyes of most fans.
Owen Hart sadly passed away on May 23, 1999, as he was making his entrance through the rafters at the Over the Edge event. He fell to the ring after the equipment that was lowering him down malfunctioned.
WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett was a close spectator at Over the Edge, and he recalled what exactly happened on that fateful day. Speaking on the Bobby Bones show, he said:
“Not at the time. That was the one thing when I went into recovery that I never processed at all. I hate to say it, but it was work. I've talked to his widow Martha and extensive conversations, but we were in a place where his match was on before me, the backstage stage manager came and said, 'Hey, Owen is going to the ring, you're up next.' I had in my mind 15-18 minutes. Three minutes later, they came and said, 'You're on now.' I went, did a promo, and all that stuff was going around. They wheeled his body right beside me.” [H/T Fightful]
Jeff Jarrett sheds more light on the unfortunate WWE incident
In the same interview, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed how reality slowly caught up to him and how he came to terms with it.
“I went to the ring, did that, came back, I said, 'I want to go to the hospital right now.' It was, I hate to say this, but it was the reality...caught up to me. It was, unfortunately, in my mind, another day at work with a tragic accident,” said Jarrett.
The very next day after the incident, Jeff Jarrett took Owen Hart’s spot in his match against the Godfather and defeated him to become the WWE Intercontinental Champion. It was surely an emotional time for the AEW star and one that still has an effect on him to this day.
