WWE legend says Malakai Black looked disappointed during their recent meeting amid speculations about his AEW future - "You could tell"
WWE legend Jim Ross recently recalled his meeting with AEW star Malakai Black. The House of Black leader's status with the promotion has been up in the air despite Black clarifying that he wasn't leaving the company.
On the recent edition of AEW Dynamite, Malakai Black lost to Adam Cole, which shocked many fans. After the match, Black hugged it out with Adam Cole and got praised by his opponent following the match. This started speculation on social media that the match might have been AEW's send-off for Malakai Black.
However, the veteran revealed on his Instagram story that he wasn't leaving the company nor retiring from professional wrestling. In a recent edition of his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross revealed that he spoke with Malakai at a past PPV, and the veteran seemed disenchanted. JR is hopeful that Black will overcome this as he is a creative performer and has a bright future.
“I talked to him a couple of pay-per-views ago, and he didn’t tell me this, but you could tell he was a little disenchanted. I mean, God Almighty. Think about this. They work a day a week. They wrestle a day a week for AEW, maybe two if they get booked on both the Saturday show and the Wednesday show, but that didn’t happen that much. If it did, you’d be working two days a week. I think his future is always going to be bright. He’s a creative guy.” [H/T:InsideTheRopes]
Jim Ross further praised AEW star Malakai Black
Malakai Black arrived in AEW in 2021 and has been involved in some great matchups over the years. He is a former World Trios Champion but many point out his questionable booking in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
In the same episode, JR noted that Malakai Black did not get many opportunities in All Elite Wrestling and said that he could have been involved in more storylines. He further praised the veteran for his work and claimed he can make money in any company.
“You didn’t get enough consistency. He could have been more deeply woven into the story lines over time. He’s one of my favorite characters. He’s a smart guy. He’s a hell of a worker. He can be a babyface or a heel. Wherever he’s going to go, he’s going to make money and he’s going to be an asset to any company that he works for.” H/T:[InsideTheRopes]
We will have to wait and see what the future holds for Malakai Black in All Elite Wrestling.
