WWE Legend shares shocking details about Sammy Guevara's backstage reputation in AEW
Sammy Guevara is an AEW original. The rising star has been touted as one of the future legends of the business, but his All Elite run has been marred at times by controversy. A WWE Legend has just opened up on Sammy's backstage reputation following a few incidents early on in the company's history.
Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy both left AEW when their deals expired this year, and both immediately returned to TNA. The brothers had what many view as lackluster stints with All Elite Wrestling, and both men had issues with Guevara. Matt previously opened up on how he had a stern talk with The Spanish God following the botched chair toss in 2020, revealing how he also went to Chris Jericho about the incident.
On his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Big Money Matt was asked how AEW officials felt about The Spanish God and the chair botch situation and if Matt felt like Sammy was starting to be "on thin ice" despite the strong potential he had.
"Maybe, I’m sure there were people [concerned], obviously, like... he’s out there with a guy that is considered a legend or whatever, and he should have been more careful when it came to grabbing a weapon and throwing it, and what he was going to do, especially because the other chairs were there too, they were just on the other side of the barricade," Matt Hardy said. Matt continued:
"So, yeah, I think it kind of made people raise their eyebrows, like, 'OK, we got to keep an eye on this guy just to make sure he is able to be a responsible, good soldier for AEW, we don’t want someone who's reckless.' So, I feel like that was probably the beginning of his rep of being reckless, because that’s kind of what he got," Matt Hardy said. [From 46:05 to 46:32]
Sammy was suspended from February 25 until late July, when he was brought back at the ROH TV tapings. He recently won the ROH World Tag Team Championship with Dustin Rhodes, who also holds the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship with The Von Erichs.
