WWE veteran says Mercedes Mone is "playing" Tony Khan: "She's so far up his you know what" (Exclusive)
A WWE veteran recently made a bold claim about TBS Women's Champion Mercedes Mone. The name in question is none other than Vince Russo.
The former WWE star arrived in AEW at the Big Business Dynamite in March 2024. Mercedes made her in-ring debut at the Double or Nothing PPV event last month and captured the TBS Women's Championship by defeating Willow Nightingale. Many have praised Mone's AEW run so far however, WCW veteran Vince Russo has an interesting take on it.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with Dr. Chris and EC3 on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast, Vince Russo claimed that Mercedes Mone is playing AEW CEO Tony Khan:
"Bro, did either of you see the Scrum with [Mercedes] Mone and him [Tony Khan]? Bro, she's so up his you know what. Bro, it is so obvious and I get it. Bro get up in there man this guy's giving you 5 million dollars get up in there girl you go. Bro, she's so far up his you know what and she's like playing him, and it's like good for her." Konnan believes Tony Khan is overpaying former WWE star Mercedes Mone
Mercedes Mone has quickly become one of the top female stars in the Jacksonville-based promotion ever since her arrival in March. Mone is reportedly getting 5 million by Tony Khan which is very expensive as compared to her WWE contract.
Speaking on his Keepin' It 100 podcast, Konnan explained that Tony Khan will have to start releasing talents from the promotion if they continue to overpay talent:
"How do you in any way justify paying Okada 4 million? [...] Ospreay 4 million [...] We're not talking about how talented he is 'cuz he is. But bro, he's over paying all these people [...] Mone, he's overpaying them [...] but he's gonna have to start releasing people," said Konnan. [3:54 - 4:20]
Mercedes Mone captured her first AEW title at the Double or Nothing PPV event. It will be interesting to see which female star will eventually dethrone the CEO in the future.
