Zack Sabre Jr. pushes for guaranteed title rematch following major victory
NJPW star Zack Sabre Jr. is seeking redemption after winning the G1 Climax. The 37-year-old is the number-one contender for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
Zack Sabre Jr. and Yota Tsuji tore the house down in the finals of the G1 Climax 34 Tournament. The 37-year-old submitted Yota Tsuji to emerge victorious and get an IWGP World Title shot at Wrestle Kingdom. However, Sabre Jr. seems to have other plans for his guaranteed championship match.
In an interview following his victory, Zack Sabre Jr. revealed that he will be looking to challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship earlier than the originally scheduled match at Wrestle Kingdom in January 2025.
"As a fan, I think it's boring as bollocks waiting until Tokyo Dome for the title match. I'm not waiting any longer. It had to be at Ryogoku Kokugikan. This is my favourite place in the world to wrestle. I'm going to be returning to England as the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and I will make my first defence at Royal Quest IV." [H/T:Fightful]
Zack Sabre Jr. wants to have another showdown against Bryan Danielson
Zack Sabre Jr. is one of the greatest opponents of The American Dragon Bryan Danielson. Both men have competed in incredible matches against each other and the British Master believes they should have one more match.
In the post-Forbidden Door media scrum, Sabre Jr. claimed that Bryan Danielson could end up returning to the ring after his retirement. He also looks to compete in one more match against The American Dragon in England.
"Our first match was in England. We had a rematch in Germany that’s somewhat forgotten, and then we had the match at WrestleDream in Japan. I know that Bryan says he’s winding it down, but he’s a pervert so I can’t imagine. In a wrestling sense, that’s not against his character. We at least have to have one more match in England," Sabre Jr. said.
Bryan Danielson is set to face Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at All In. The American Dragon has put his career on the line in the match and it will be interesting to see who comes out victorious at Wembley Stadium.
