2-time AEW champion set to become free agent amid WWE rumors - Reports

According to a new report, two-time AEW champion Penta El Zero Miedo is set to become a free agent soon. He has been rumored to join WWE for a while.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Penta and his brother Rey Fenix's AEW contracts were set to expire. But the Tony Khan-led management seemingly extended their deals by adding injury time. This move derailed WWE's alleged plan to acquire the duo's services.

A recent report by the Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Melter has now clarified that Tony Khan wasn't legally allowed to extend Penta's contract so he might become a free agent soon.

"Penta’s deal was not extended, they didn’t have the right to do that. So he’s gonna be a free agent."

Meltzer also reported that Tony Khan might not use The Lucha Brothers on TV since they were rumored to jump ship to WWE.

"As far as Fenix [is concerned], my impression is if [those] guys are going to go to WWE, Tony’s not gonna use them. They’re just going to be frozen for a while." [H/T: WrestleTalk]

Penta has been part of AEW since 2019 and has won the World Tag Team and World Trios titles.

Jey Uso comments on potentially facing AEW's Lucha Brothers

Last week, Jey Uso had an interview with Metro UK during a WWE tour, where he was asked about joining forces with his twin brother, Jimmy Uso. Main Event Jey said he would like to reunite with his brother and take on tag teams like the Motor City Machine Guns and The Lucha Brothers.

"I feel like if we [The Usos, with Jimmy] did have a comeback, man, I would like to run with those guys [Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin], a couple [of] guys from NXT, maybe the Lucha Bros. [Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix]. But they gotta walk through this door," Jey said.

The Usos are one of the most decorated tag teams in the history of WWE. They went their separate ways last year due to the Bloodline drama. Jey joined RAW, while Jimmy continued to be part of the SmackDown roster. Jimmy recently returned from a lengthy hiatus and aligned himself with Roman Reigns.
