39-year-old AEW star is now a free agent, has already spoken to WWE [Reports]
A major AEW name is now a free agent and has also reportedly spoken to WWE. This star was a former champion in Tony Khan's promotion.
Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix were two of the most entertaining stars on the All Elite Wrestling roster. They captivated audiences with their death-defying stunts. This made them one of the most popular acts in the promotion.
The duo even found a lot of success during their initial years in the company by winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship and the Trios Championship. However, their booking hasn't been great this year and as a result, there were reports The Lucha Brothers were looking to leave the promotion when their contracts ended.
There was also speculation that the duo were headed to WWE. However, Tony Khan threw a wrench in those plans by adding some additional injury time to Rey Fenix's contract, thereby extending it.
According to reports from Fightful Select, Penta El Zero Miedo's contract with AEW has effectively ended and he is now a free agent. However, Rey Fenix still remains under contract with the company.
It was further reported that there has been no indication of any creative plans for them after AEW found out that Penta had been talking to WWE. Death Triangle was considered to win the Trios Titles at All In. However, this decision changed as the relationship between Lucha Brothers and the Jacksonville-based promotion became strained.
Jey Uso discussed facing the Lucha Bros. in WWE
It has been rumored for a while now that WWE was interested in Lucha Bros. However, Tony Khan has reportedly prevented the duo from moving to the Stamford-based promotion by adding injuring time to Rey Fenix's contract. This hasn't stopped fans from cooking up some dream matches for the Lucha Bros. to have when they arrive in the Stamford-based promotion. Even Jey Uso spoke about the possibility of facing the former AEW World Tag Champions.
During a recent interview with Metro UK, Jey Uso was asked about the possibility of being a tag team wrestler again. He said he wouldn't mind getting back together with his brother again and facing teams like Motor City Machine Guns and Lucha Bros. if they ever signed with WWE.
"I feel like if we [The Usos, with Jimmy] did have a comeback, man, I would like to run with those guys [Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin], a couple [of] guys from NXT, maybe the Lucha Bros. [Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix]. But they gotta walk through this door," Jey said. [H/T - MetroUK]
It will be interesting to see if Penta El Zero Miedo will sign with WWE without Rey Fenix or if he waits for his brother's release before signing on the dotted line.
