AEW plans to build a new faction around 30-year-old former WWE star - Reports
The latest report suggested that a former WWE Superstar is expected to build a new faction in AEW. The star has been with Tony Khan's promotion since the beginning of this year.
The 30-year-old former WWE Superstar in question is Deonna Purrazzo. Deonna made her AEW debut earlier this year in January. She is known for her time in the Stamford-based promotion from 2018 to 2020. Purrazzo also had a great run in TNA from 2021 to 2023. In her current All Elite run, the star seems directionless.
After losing to Toni Storm in an AEW Women's World Title Match at the Revolution 2024 Pay-Per-View, Deonna Purrazzo is still looking for a major opportunity. Deonna also had a personal feud with Thunder Rosa after turning heel. Meanwhile, the latest report suggests a new direction for Purazzo.
According to a recent report from PWInsider, Tony Khan's promotion is in talks of building a new faction around Deonna Purrazzo. Considering the report, Deonna could form a new heel female faction in the coming weeks which would be a big step in her current run.
Deonna Purrazzo had talks with WWE before joining AEW
During a recent interview with Stephanie Chase, Deonna Purrazzo revealed that she had talks with WWE's Triple H and William Regal before eventually joining AEW. Purrazzo stated the following:
"It kinda came down to like few weeks before, you know what I mean? I was a free agent, kind of talking to everybody, talking to Triple H, I talked to William Regal, I talked to obviously Tony Khan and trying to just figure out what the best decision for me was going to be. [...] I just felt like there wasn't trust there for me to squander this great opportunity I knew was there with AEW."
