AEW President Tony Khan reportedly expected to make a huge announcement soon
AEW President and CEO Tony Khan is expected to make a major announcement sooner rather than later. According to reports, it could concern the imminent TV deal with WBD.
Fans and the wrestling fraternity have been anticipating a new TV deal announcement between AEW and Warner Brothers Discovery for the past few months. After several speculations, a recent report by the Puck Newsletter provided a major update about Tony Khan's promotion and WBD.
The report noted that the new deal between AEW and WBD is nearly finalized, and the announcement could be made as soon as next week, "barring any last-minute changes." Next week, Dynamite: Grand Slam will take place inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the WBD representatives are likely to be present. It was reported that it looked like a four-year deal.
In the four-year deal, three years are guaranteed, with one more being optional. Broadcasts will be on the TNT, TBS, and TruTV channels. Furthermore, it was reported that the broadcast would be "twice a week" with no explanation regarding any change in current AEW TV programming.
Moreover, the report also stated that the deal amounting to $170M per year is "apparently in the ballpark." According to the report, All Elite Wrestling is reportedly pitching another package to the broadcast channels.
There is no information regarding pay-per-view broadcasts of Tony Khan's promotion
Although the report by Puck Newsletter noted many details regarding the imminent deal between AEW and WBD, it did not include anything regarding the pay-per-views.
Fans were hoping for a pay-per-view streaming deal with HBO MAX, but no details have been provided yet.
Nonetheless, while there is no confirmation regarding the AEW events possibly heading to MAX, the report about the new deal with WBD is great news for the fans and Tony Khan. Only time will tell when the announcement will be officially made.
