Backstage AEW reaction to Tomohiro Ishii’s work amid recent controversy - Reports

Japanese star Tomohiro Ishii has regularly been performing in AEW. He is set to take part in a mixed tag team match at All In 2024. Furthermore, Tony Khan recently revealed that he will remain with the company for the rest of the summer. A new report has disclosed the promotion's backstage reaction to Ishii's work.

The former NEVER Openweight Champion is revered for his fierce in-ring style and no-nonsense attitude. According to PWInsider, people working for the Tony Khan-led company are deeply appreciative of his work in recent matches. They are pleased that he will continue performing for them. Furthermore, young talents are actively trying to learn his techniques from him.

Interestingly, the 48-year-old found himself in controversy after his recent match against AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland. During the bout, Ishii seemingly did not sell a few of Strickland's moves, and fans on social media criticized him for it. Moreover, former ECW Champion Rob Van Dam was displeased with the occurrences in the showdown.


Tomohiro Ishii has had a storied career

Ishii has performed in numerous promotions in Japan, but he is best known for his time in NJPW. In the company, he has won the IWGP Tag Team Championship once, the NEVER Openweight Championship a staggering six times, and the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Title thrice.

He has also held the RevPro British Heavyweight Championship twice and the ROH World Television Championship once. Furthermore, he has won titles in Pro Wrestling Zero1-Max, Apache Pro-Wrestling Army, and more.

The team of Tomohiro Ishii and Willow Nightingale will lock horns with Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway in a mixed tag team bout at All In. The marquee event is scheduled to take place on August 25 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
