Backstage news on the negotiations between AEW and FOX; Shockwave update - Reports
AEW and FOX are reportedly set to ink a new deal. Along with that, an update has surfaced regarding Tony Khan's possible new show called Shockwave.
Last week, the Jacksonville-based promotion filed a trademark for ''Shockwave," which led to speculations about the company launching a brand-new show. A few days later, rumors of All Elite Wrestling and FOX negotiating a fresh deal surfaced on the internet.
Veteran journalist Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio recently provided an update on the matter. The 64-year-old stated that while the negotiations between the FOX network and the Jacksonville-based promotion were ongoing, the two parties were ''pretty darn close'' to the deal.
Meltzer said, "The FOX deal is not done. I know a lot of people have been talking about the idea on the FOX Network. I would strongly suspect; I do not know, but it will not be on the FOX Network. It will probably be another station, whether it’s FS1, whether it's a different station, or whether it’s a streaming component. I don't know. And I don't believe it's a done deal either. I think it’s something they’re working on. As far as the Shockwave thing, they did trademark the name of ‘Shockwave,’ so they have to be pretty darn close to a deal to go and actually go to the length of trademarking the name," he said. Tony Khan comments on AEW's deal with WBD
AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery have been partners since the inception of the Jacksonville-based company in 2019. All three shows, Dynamite, Collision, and Rampage, air on WBD platforms, TNT and TBS.
AEW's deal with WBD expired earlier this year, but according to media reports, the two companies have inked a new deal. While everything has been finalized, it hasn't been officially announced yet. Meanwhile, Tony Khan revealed at the post-All Out 2024 media scrum that he was 90% sure that the deal would be announced next month.
It will be interesting to see if the two parties make a major announcement in the coming weeks.
