Chris Jericho tears down rumors of him asking WWE Hall of Famer to come out of retirement; blames veteran for spreading fake news - Reports
Chris Jericho claimed a wrestling veteran spread a false news about him. This was in response to rumors of him asking a WWE Hall of Famer to come out of retirement.
Jushin Thunder Liger is a legend in the wrestling business. He enjoyed a career that spanned several decades and competed in almost every promotion in the world. Everywhere he went, he managed to win championships and gain traction.
Jushin Thuner Liger is a household name today and has established himself as one of the all time greats as far as cruiserweights are concerned. His contributions to the industry were recognized when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2020. Liger hung up his boots in the same year.
However, Liger is set to be one of the special guests on the upcoming Jericho Cruise set to take place in January 2025. Sonny Onoo recently said that Jericho asked the WWE Hall of Famer to come out of retirement for a match but he refused due to his age.
According to reports from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Chris Jericho denied ever asking Liger to come out of retirement although he is going to be one of the special guests on The Jericho Cruise. He also blamed Sonny Onoo for making up the story.
"Chris Jericho said he never asked Jushin Liger to come out of retirement and wrestle on the January Jericho Cruise. Liger will be one of the special guests on the cruise. Jericho said when that story got out it was because Sonny Onoo made it up."
Matt Hardy gives his honest thoughts on Chris Jericho's contribution to AEW
Chris Jericho has been around the wrestling business for a long time. Much like Jushin Thunder Liger, Jericho has also wrestled for every major promotion winning titles everywhere he has gone. Even in AEW, Jericho has always managed to reinvent himself to stay relevant. However, there are some fans who believe he should not be on TV.
Speaking on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the veteran said that Jericho is beneficial to AEW and ROH and that's why Tony Khan recognizes his utility. He also noted that TK probably feels a sense of loyalty towards Jericho since he helped put AEW on the map.
"I think he is extremely beneficial to AEW programming and ROH programming and I think Tony Khan realizes that and he is seeing the value in Chris Jericho when it comes to ticket sales or whatever else it may be and I think that’s why he understands to keep him around. Also, I feel like there’s probably a lot of loyalty from Tony Khan to Chris Jericho because he is one of the guys, in many ways he was like their Hogan in the beginning because he helped put AEW on the map.” [H/T: ITRWrestling]
Since joining AEW, Jericho has won the AEW World Championship and the ROH Championship.
