Disappointing update on AEW launching new show amid Rampage cancellation rumors - Reports
AEW recently announced its new media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discovery after months of rumors and speculation. The next All Elite Wrestling weekly TV series has been rumored since before the deal was confirmed, and now backstage sources have provided a disappointing update on the matter.
Tony Khan has been rumored to premiere a new weekly show on FOX, titled Shockwave. Officials have trademarked the name, and Swerve Strickland seemingly spoiled plans for FOX, but the program still is not official, and at this point seems to be in the discussion stages.
The first word on the show came months ago after rumors on All Elite Wrestling potentially doing away with Rampage.
Shockwave is still up in the air, and a new report from Fightful Select indicates that they are still in the planning stages of the project. As of mid-November, sources were unable to confirm Shockwave details, but it was noted that AEW was still discussing the rumored program and an ROH TV show with potential partners.
In response to a question on whether Shockwave was pitched as a one-hour or two-hour show, Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp indicated that officials still have not decided on many basic Shockwave details as there's been no talk of the length of the show, adding that this would be a part of the ongoing discussions.
It was reiterated how Shockwave was still a hypothetical project and not something that has been confirmed by the company. The rumors continue on AEW potentially doing away with Rampage and Battle of the Belts.
