Disappointing update on former TNT Champion; he hasn't wrestled in AEW in more than a year - Reports
Fans have seen the rise of many new AEW stars in 2024, but one of the company's foundational talents has been mysteriously out of action for more than a year. A new update has shed some light on former TNT Champion Scorpio Sky's status in the promotion.
Scorpio Sky was an important star in AEW's early days. He and his SoCal Uncensored partners, Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels, had been working alongside The Elite to help build the company from day one. SCU's Sky and Kazarian were also the promotion's inaugural World Tag Team Champions in 2019.
Sky struck out on his own after the team broke up and found mild success, winning the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match in 2021 and enjoying two short TNT title reigns. However, he's barely been seen over the past couple of years.
Fightful Select notes that Sky is healthy but is rarely utilized. The report claims that before Ethan Page jumped to WWE, a push for Page and Sky (as Men of the Year) was considered. There were also recent plans for Scorpio to partner up with Private Party, who are currently chasing The Young Bucks' World Tag Team Championship. The plans were ultimately scrapped.
Scorpio Sky teased his AEW return earlier this year
Scorpio Sky's last match on AEW TV was a nine-minute bout against Andrade El Idolo on the September 16, 2023, episode of Collision. He's since wrestled a few times in Ring of Honor and taken bookings on the independent circuit, where he recently reunited with Frankie Kazarian.
Despite that, there were apparently plans for Sky to make a big splash this year. Back in May, the former TNT Champion appeared in a vignette on Rampage and claimed that he was making a comeback:
"I have done things people dream about. I have made money. Faced legends. Won championship after championship. You might not want to hear this but that was easy. That does not mean I don't relate. I understand that a normal person in my position would fail because since time began, when people wanted to see a star, they’d look up at the sky and all that does is put me in the perfect place to reach down and lift you up here with me. So to all the fans around the world, I am coming back and I am here for you."
Unfortunately, that comeback never manifested, and Scorpio Sky hasn't been seen on AEW television since. It remains to be seen whether Tony Khan can find a way to utilize the foundational star.
