Disappointing update on WWE legend's AEW status - Reports
AEW has a stacked roster that boasts not only young and hungry performers aiming to make a name for themselves but also many experienced veterans. However, recent reports have suggested that the promotion had not yet reached out to Shelton Benjamin, a revered legend of the business.
Benjamin was shown the door by WWE during the company's recent roster cuts in September 2023. Since then, there's been ample speculation about where he shows up next. Many fans expected Benjamin to be courted by All Elite Wrestling, owing to the wealth of experience and knowledge he brings to the table.
The latest rumors could dampen that anticipation as Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select is reporting that AEW has not yet reached out to Shelton Benjamin. However, it was noted that a few people backstage in the company were hoping that the 48-year-old legend could eventually end up in All Elite Wrestling.
Booker T says Shelton Benjamin would be a good fit in AEW
Back in September 2023, following Benjamin's WWE release, Booker T discussed his future on his podcast, Hall of Fame. The former WCW Champion believes that Shelton Benjamin would make a great addition to AEW's roster. He also added that Benjamin could possibly even take his talents to Japan down the line.
"It would be a nice pickup, as well as he always can go back to Japan and do that gig over there three months out of the year, come back, go home, three months, that type of deal. So I think Shelton's options are open just because he's kept himself in shape. Shelton's not one of those guys you've ever heard in the press, in the news as far as some kind of scandal going on or anything like that," he said.
It remains to be seen how things pan out for Shelton Benjamin in the wrestling business and if he does end up becoming a part of AEW.
