Former WWE Champion reportedly expected to remain with AEW despite contract expiring
A former WWE Champion is reportedly expected to remain with AEW despite his contract expiring. This is a very peculiar yet interesting case. The star is none other than Bryan Danielson.
The American Dragon recently revealed in an interview with Renee Paquette that his contract is set to expire on August 1. He is scheduled to take on AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland for his title at All In 2024 at Wembley Stadium, and there is a lot of fanfare around it right now.
Fightful Select has now reported that the former WWE star is expected to continue working with Tony Khan’s company even after the expiry of his contract, and that includes All In pay-per-view.
The report also mentioned that Bryan Danielson will remain only a part-time wrestler after the expiry of his contract. That is the kind of respect Bryan commands from his peers, and given that he is universally liked in the locker room, there will not be any problem.
Swerve Strickland calls former WWE star Bryan Danielson the greatest of all time
AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland paid Bryan Danielson the ultimate respect and hailed him as the greatest of all time.
The two men are scheduled to take on each other in one of the biggest shows of the year at All In and one would expect Strickland to come out all guns blazing against his opponent. While speaking to Sports Illustrated, the former WWE star hailed Danielson. He said:
"Bryan’s not just experienced, he’s the greatest of all time. That’s who I’m going up against–a first-ballot Hall of Famer. I’ve never faced anyone like him. But he’s never faced anyone like me."
It is great to see the amount of respect Swerve Strickland has for his colleague and soon-to-be opponent. Given the kind of respect he has bestowed on Danielson, it is not hard to see why Tony Khan wants him to continue working with the company even after his contract ends.
