Huge update on Darby Allin's AEW status amid absence - Reports
Darby Allin is an AEW Original. The multi-time champion has been away from the action for almost one month now following a brutal real-life incident and his last match for the company. New details are being revealed on Allin's status and future.
The Invisible Man suffered a broken foot in the 12-minute loss to Jay White at the Big Business Dynamite on March 13. Then in late April, Allin's nose was broken after he was hit by a bus while crossing the road in New York City. Following the loss to White, the 31-year-old did not wrestle again until Double Or Nothing on May 26, where he joined Team AEW for a loss to The New Elite in Anarchy In The Arena.
The finish to the 30-minute main event saw the heels hang Darby upside down by his ankles so that The Young Bucks could deliver a double superkick. Allin has not appeared since Double Or Nothing. A new report from Fightful Select notes that the two-time TNT Champion was given additional time to heal up after the pay-per-view.
The 2023 Royal Rampage winner took the double superkick to the face, which was already injured. It remains to be seen when Allin will return to work, but he previously indicated that he would be healed up and hopefully medically cleared in June.
Allin has only wrestled 9 AEW and ROH matches in 2024 so far, but it has been a big year. Revolution on March 3 saw Allin and Sting retain the World Tag Team Championship over The Young Bucks in what was The Stinger's retirement match.
The Undertaker on AEW pairing Sting with Darby Allin
Sting signed with AEW in 2021 and retired this past March with an undefeated record. The Icon wrestled all 26 matches with Darby Allin as his partner, but sometimes they were joined by others in multi-man matches, such as CM Punk or Adam Copeland.
Sting had major praise for Allin after retiring at Revolution. The Undertaker recently discussed the chemistry between Allin and Sting on his Six Feet Under podcast. The WWE Hall of Famer agreed it was smart to put Sting in a full-time tag team:
"There would have been tons of singles matches for him [in AEW], but he kind of took a young... what's the other kid's name? Darby Allin... there was a little bit of chemistry there, and you know, Sting was kind of that big brother-type role. It's a very smart move [to put Sting in a tag team] because you can... you don't get exposed, you can very creatively pick your spots," The Undertaker said. [From 12:16 - 13:16]
The Phenom clarified that he did not mean The Stinger would be exposed in terms of talent, but due to Father Time's undefeated record. He also reiterated that he was not making any disparaging remarks about Sting, and congratulates his fellow legend on a successful career.
