Major update on AEW performer's in-ring return following lengthy absence - Reports

A talented Mexican professional wrestler has been out of action due to injury for the past several months now. The star has performed for AEW in the past. A recent report has shed light on his current medical status.

The star in question is none other than El Hijo Del Vikingo. The 27-year-old is currently signed to Mexican wrestling promotion Lucha Libre AAA. He is the longest-reigning AAA Mega Champion in the company's history. Vikingo gained prominence through his multiple appearances in AEW last year. The star's maiden in-ring performance for the Jacksonville-based company came on the March 22, 2023, episode of Dynamite, where he defeated Kenny Omega.

Meanwhile, Vikingo has been absent from in-ring duties since February 2024. The 27-year-old suffered a knee injury during a trios match at AULL Rencor Extremo and later underwent surgery.

According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer, El Hijo Del Vikingo has been medically cleared to compete, and he is allegedly planning to return to in-ring action on September 27. Vikingo is expected to appear at a Lucha Libre AAA event on September 29, as he is advertised in the event poster as well.

''El Hijo del Vikingo is now targeting 9/27 for his return to the ring after knee surgery,'' the report stated. [H/T: Ringside News]

Rey Mysterio opens up on his advice to an AEW performer

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio disclosed in an interview last year that he once contacted AEW performer El Hijo Del Vikingo and gave the 27-year-old some valuable advice.

Speaking to Marc Raimondi of ESPN, The Master of 619 urged Vikingo to pick and choose the ideal moments before unleashing an impactful athletic move.

“I pretty much gave him that advice and told him he could still be incredible if he just toned it down two or three beats more. Pick the moments where you want to do your things to impact. You don’t have to do it every night because they already know who you are. I hope that he takes the advice and doesn’t have to suffer what I did, which is learn the hard way,” he said.

Only time will tell if El Hijo Del Vikingo adheres to Rey Mysterio's advice upon his impending return.
