Malakai Black's AEW status once again uncertain as Buddy Matthews reportedly makes a big call on his future
A new update on the AEW future of Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews has come to the fore and it's not looking promising. Buddy Matthews joined All Elite Wrestling in early 2022 and has since been a member of The House of Black faction.
Backstage rumblings have often cast doubt over Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews' status with the Jacksonville-based promotion. In late 2022, there were some rumors that Black and Matthews wanted out of AEW and allegedly requested their release but were denied. But the duo eventually stayed and went on to find success in the trios division, winning the AEW World Trios Championship with Brody King last year.
Amidst their TV absence, Ibou of WrestlePurists learned that Buddy Matthews has re-signed with All Elite Wrestling, though there's no word on the length of his new contract.
As for Malakai Black, he said The Dutchman's contract runs out "relatively soon," and there's no confirmation on whether the two parties have put pen to paper on a new deal.
Interestingly, Tony Khan previously mentioned that Black will be under an AEW contract until at least 2027.
Whether or not these rumors are true, it is going to get the fans excited about the possibility of formerly Aleister Black returning to WWE.
