Massive new update on Samoa Joe amid AEW hiatus - Reports

Samoa Joe has been absent from AEW TV for a few months. New details have come to light regarding his future.

Samoa Joe proved himself to be a top star in AEW last year when he captured the AEW World Championship from MJF at World's End. He held the title for 113 days before he lost it to Swerve Strickland.

After losing his title, Joe formed a team with Hook, and they began feuding with The Learning Tree. He faced Chris Jericho in a Stampede Street Fight on the July 10 episode of Dynamite. During the match, he was put through a wall by a forklift, seemingly writing him off TV for the time being.

Following this, it was reported that the former AEW World Champion would be taking time off from TV to film the second season of the TV show Twisted Metal, in which he plays the physical role of Sweeth Tooh, a psychotic clown. Since then, he has not been seen on AEW TV, but his return may not be far off.

According to reports from Fightful Select, Samoa Joe should be back soon as he has finished filming for Twisted Metal. However, he will have to perform media obligations once the show is released in a few months. A specific date for his return is still not known at this time.

Michael Jonathan Smith confirmed that Twisted Metal season 2 has finished filming, indicating Samoa Joe could return soon

Twisted Metal is a post-apocalyptic action-comedy series published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The first season of the show was released on Peacock in July 2023. The show was well received by the fans, and it was renewed for a second season. The show stars Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Samoa Joe, Thomas Haden Church, and Anthony Carrigan in prominent roles.

The crew started filming for season 2 a couple of months ago, which is why Joe was absent from the ring. The show's writer, Michael Jonathan Smith, confirmed on social media that the second season of the show has finished filming, indicating that Joe could make his return to professional wrestling.

"That’s a wrap on production of Twisted Metal s2! Enjoy these non-spoiler pictures, including me watching our final shot of the season. We went out with a bang! This production was unforgettable. Our incredibly talented cast and crew brought the thunder and helped deliver something truly special. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this season even bigger than the first one. Now… off to post. #twistedmetal," read Smith's update.
