Massive WWE plans affected due to AEW - Reports
WWE planned on running NXT from a popular arena. However, the Triple H-led promotion has backed off due to an AEW booking. The arena booked by Tony Khan's promotion is none other than Hammerstein Ballroom.
The popular arena was used by WWE's version of ECW in 2005 and 2006 for One Night Stand PPV events. WWE recently aired an NXT show from another popular ECW venue, the 2300 Arena, which was a huge success. The company planned on booking another NXT show at the Hammerstein Ballroom but news recently broke about ROH using the arena for December's Final Battle PPV. AEW will also be using the arena for an episode of Collision.
In a recent report by Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was revealed that the date of NXT's Hammerstein Ballroom show was too close to All Elite Wrestling's which led to WWE scrapping their plans.
"NXT attempted to book a date at the Hammerstein Ballroom to follow up on the 2300 Arena success. However, the date they wanted was too close to the dates Tony Khan/AEW had booked."
DDP reveals why he chose to work for AEW after WWE
Diamond Dallas Page had a brief tenure in AEW from 2019 to 2020. The veteran departed the promotion and is currently under a Legends deal with WWE. In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, DDP revealed that he went to All Elite Wrestling to help Cody Rhodes as his father Dusty Rhodes helped him become Diamond Dallas Page.
"I'm proud to be working with them again. I never wanted to go anywhere the first time, but I had to help the kid whose father helped me. Without Dusty Rhodes there is no Diamond Dallas Page. I had to help that young man who was on his own vision quest. He didn't ask for my help, I just came to him and said, 'Hey, let us start filming you. Let's start doing stuff. Costs you nothing. Let us just start documenting your journey here.' And where did it end up? Right back in the WWE, bigger than ever, on the cover of 2K24. You can't make this stuff up." [H/T B/R]
Cody Rhodes is the current Undisputed WWE Champion. It will be interesting to see if DDP makes an appearance in a Rhodes segment sometime in the future.
