Real reason why AEW suddenly disbanded top alliance - Reports

AEW abruptly ended a popular alliance between a former TBS Champion and an on-screen manager. A new report has disclosed the potential reason why the pair was separated.

Earlier this year, AEW manager Stokely Hathaway combined forces with former TBS Champions Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale. After her loss to Mercedes Mone at Double or Nothing, Nightingale got kicked out of the group as Stokely and Statlander turned heel.

The heel alliance continued until the 2024 All Out pay-per-view, where Kris Statlander defeated Willow Nightingale in a Chicago Street Fight. Statlander seemingly turned babyface on a recent episode of Collision. Furthermore, Stokely Hathaway is no longer managing the 29-year-old.

Fans online have been wondering why the two suddenly parted ways despite their recent success as heels. On Fightful Select's Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp said AEW's creative team seemingly didn't have the option to continue Statlander and Hathaway's story.

"I had a lot of people asking why this happened and saying it didn't make sense. I was just told it wasn't an option to continue forward with that story. Statlander hadn't wrestled in about a month since All Out. We were told she had been dealing with a minor injury but she's cleared and good to go now."

AEW's Kris Statlander is currently feuding with Mercedes Mone

Kris Statlander made her in-ring return after All Out on last Saturday's Collision. She defeated Zoey Lynn in a squash match on the show. After her bout, Statlander was interrupted by TBS Champion Mercedes Mone and Kamille. After a disrespectful promo exchange, Kamille attacked the 29-year-old.

Mone also had a confrontation with Statlander backstage on Collision, where they hinted at feuding with each other. Only time will tell what's next in the compelling program.
