Swerve Strickland wishes "he could take back" AEW comment, update on the unintentional leak - Reports
Former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland is reportedly regretting leaking a major announcement about the future of All Elite Wrestling programming. Swerve has been out of action since All Out.
In a recent QueenzFlip Vlog at Sneakcon, Swerve Strickland accidentally spoiled the news about a new AEW show potentially coming to Fox. He stated that after SmackDown left the network, All Elite Wrestling is set to launch a new television show on Fox. The news made rumblings all over social media however, the promotion has been quiet on the rumors.
In a recent report by Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp, it was revealed that Swerve Strickland's comments about AEW and Fox's deal were not intentionally leaked and the former World Champion wishes he could take them back:
"He wishes he could take it back. That was not intentionally leaked. I'm told that he did not know that a phone was in the vicinity and you could tell. I would say maybe more ominously filmed. I'm not saying like from a sneaky perspective or anything like that. It's just he was a little oblivious to a phone being there. He was talking with a friend." [28:47-29:14]
AEW star Swerve Strickland recently claimed that WWE reached out to him to ask about his availability
Swerve Strickland is one of the fastest-rising stars of AEW. He was signed to WWE prior to his All Elite Wrestling arrival however, his run with the Stamford-based promotion quickly ended after the promotion released him after his main roster call up.
In a recent chat on The Breakfast Club podcast, Swerve Strickland claimed that he was approached by the WWE and asked about his availability. He did confirm that he did not speak directly to them and the talks were between his representation and the promotion:
“Yeah. It wasn’t like the words ‘re-sign'. They ‘asked about my availability.' They never contacted me. They contacted my representation. I’m at a stage now where I enjoy the fact that I don’t have that direct contact. When you are progressing and getting higher and you’re in rooms with people like [Charlamagne Tha God], you have to kind of keep space in between these types of conversations. You can check my phone. It’s never been there. I never had direct contact. I want to keep that little space. Communication has been reached out.” [H/T Fightful]
Swerve Strickland has recently signed a long-term deal with AEW. It will be interesting to see if he returns to WWE in the future.
