Tony Khan to force a blockbuster twist after Goldberg announces WWE retirement match? Analyzing the possibility
Goldberg's longstanding issue with Vince McMahon and the WWE was that he never got to have a retirement match in the promotion. Despite this, the WCW legend made an appearance at WWE Bad Blood and was at ringside. He was confronted by World Heavyweight Champion Gunther which almost led to a physical altercation.
This led many fans to believe that perhaps the former WCW Champion could be making his return to the ring for a feud with Gunther. The WWE Hall of Famer also announced recently that he was going to have a retirement match in the Stamford-based company in 2025, but did not disclose other details. However, Tony Khan might have other ideas. The AEW boss could very well force a change to these plans if he manages to convince the legend to have his final bout in the Jacksonville-based promotion instead.
Although the chances of this happening are slim, they cannot be disregarded since anything is possible in professional wrestling, especially between now and 2025. WWE could very well change their mind and cancel the retirement match, which could prove to be a massive opportunity for Tony Khan to present his offer to Goldberg to have his final hurrah in his company instead.
While the WWE legend has previously called AEW a cheesy product, the new multi-year TV deal that All Elite Wrestling signed with Warner Bros. Discovery recently could make the company an attractive option.
Matt Morgan predicts that Goldberg will lose his retirement match in 10 seconds
After Gunther's confrontation with Goldberg at WWE Bad Blood, many fans believe his retirement match could be against the World Heavyweight Champion. Even the former Universal Champion teased that Gunther could be a forerunner to face him in his final bout.
Speaking on his Gigantic Pop podcast, Matt Morgan said that Gunther can't have a back-and-forth match with the WCW legend and he needs to squash him in 10 seconds.
"He [Gunther] can still be champion and he needs to job Goldberg out in 10 seconds flat. It cannot be a back-and-forth match. [...] With respect to Goldberg, great career, one of the greatest streaks of all time, we all were fans of his, I was in college. He was one of the most over talents of all time during his height of his success. But we all get old, it is what it is, and Gunther would absolutely eviscerate him and he needs to eviscerate him," he said. [From 26:18 to 26:53]
