Tony Khan made a major mistake at AEW Collision: Grand Slam 2024

Earlier tonight, AEW Collision: Grand Slam took place and featured several heated feuds and interesting title matches. This was considered as the second half following a stacked Dynamite: Grand Slam show a few days ago.

However, a segment that was advertised tonight seemed to be the odd one out during the show and something that fans did not appreciate as much. This would be MxM Collection's Grand Slam Fashion Week segment.

During the segment, they had a mini-fashion week show as they brought out models sporting their "creations." Their work was the customizations they made to Max Caster's jacket. They brought out their top model to showcase the jacket, but in the end, this was Billy Gunn in disguise.

This led to a mini-brawl between The Acclaimed and MxM Collection. The models they hired even came out to help the latter, but the former AEW World Trios Champions still came out on top.

The segment did not fit with the importance of a show like Grand Slam

There are a handful of special episodes of AEW's weekly shows that they showcase each year and Grand Slam is one of them. This is even considered by many as having a pay-per-view-like event showcased on live TV for free.

Throughout the night, all the matches featured heated rivalries such as "Hangman" Adam Page vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jamie Hayter finally getting her hands on Saraya, to title matches such as the TNT Championship and the AEW World Trios Championship being defended. This was the only non-match segment to be shown in the ring tonight.

Having another quick match or extended time for one of the other major matches may have been better than adding this segment to tonight's show.

The crowd was not into it

A way to tell if a segment was successful or not is through the crowd's reaction. Tonight's show, however, was taped this past Wednesday, and at this point, the crowd had been seated for around three hours already so it was natural that fatigue could have been a factor.

However, it seemed that there were little to no reactions overall from the crowd to the segment. There were only cheers when Billy Gunn revealed himself to be one of the models, and when The Acclaimed came out. This proves that this segment was something that fans did not expect.

The segment could have been on AEW Rampage

Should Tony Khan and AEW push for this segment to be aired, this could have been put on this week's episode of Rampage instead. Seeing as MxM Collection has frequently been appearing on the show, it would be like regular programming.

AEW Rampage this week was primarily match-based and almost no backstage segments or anything of the sort was featured on the show. Adding the segment of the MxM Collection may have spiced things up, and this would have also allowed The Acclaimed to get featured on the show.

Tonight's show was an interesting one indeed, and this was a good way to close out AEW Grand Slam week. This segment ended up being a miss, but this sets up the potential feud between the two factions for some time soon.
