Triple H to bring back former IC Champion to WWE after he rejects Tony Khan's offer? Analyzing the chances
A former Intercontinental Champion has been making recent appearances in AEW which has fueled speculation that he could join Tony Khan's promotion. However, recent reports indicate otherwise.
Matt Cardona has made frequent appearances for AEW in 2024. He challenged Adam Copeland for the TNT Championship earlier this year. He then showed up at Ring of Honor and challenged Chris Jericho for the World Title. On the December 13 episode of Rampage, Cardona defeated Bryan Keith. However, the Indy God wasn't able to beat Jericho at ROH Final Battle earlier this week.
These frequent appearances sparked speculations that Matt Cardona could end up signing with Tony Khan's promotion. However, it was reported that Cardona had informed people that he has not signed with AEW and is not looking to do so at the moment. This might be the perfect opportunity for Triple H to re-sign the Indy God.
Matt Cardona has been rumored to make his WWE comeback ever since his wife Chelsea Green made her return to the promotion. Now, Green is the first-ever Women's United States Champion but Cardona is yet to make his return. He has also come a long way in his wrestling career and is one of the most popular names in the independent circuit.
He could be waiting for an invitation to return to the Stamford-based promotion and this could be the perfect chance for him to return and pair up with his wife to form an entertaining power couple.
Vince Russo reveals what AEW stars have told him about Tony Khan
Tony Khan has often been praised by several of his talents for being a great boss. He is known for showing compassion towards his talent and has offered many of them generous contracts with some degree of creative control. Despite Tony offering such liberties to his stars, it's somewhat surprising that Matt Cardona has decided against joining the promotion since he would fit right into their atmosphere
However, on the flip side, Khan's ways have led many to believe that wrestlers calling the shots has affected the product adversely. The most recent example of this is Jon Moxley written storyline revolving around his Death Riders, which has been criticized by fans and critics. Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws podcast, Vince Russo said that people in AEW have confirmed that Tony Khan lets his wrestlers do whatever they want.
"I've heard from guys on top of AEW where, you know, with Tony [Khan], it's basically just go out there and do whatever you want. You gotta have some kind of control and, you know, in order to put out the type of product that you want. So you really got to find that happy medium," he said. [From 8:00 - 8:18]
