Ahead of Round 16, the Geelong Cats have a number of players absent. Compared to most of the other clubs, the Cats’ number of injured players (two) can be considered quite fortunate.

The Adelaide Crows have eight injured players from Round 15, Brisbane Lions seven, Carlton Blues 10, Collingwood Magpies 12, Essendon Bombers 10, Fremantle Dockers eight, Gold Coast Suns have two as well, GWS Giants 10, Hawthorn Hawks nine, Melbourne Demons seven, North Melbourne Kangaroos eight, Port Adelaide Power six, Richmond Tigers 15, St Kilda Saints eight, Sydney Swans six, West Coast Eagles eight, and Western Bulldogs nine.

Cameron Guthrie will return in two weeks due to an achilles issue, while Oli Wiltshire is making progress, working his way back from a pelvis injury.

Guthrie hasn't featured in any games since the Geelong Cats' loss to Gold Coast a month ago. He has managed 10 games in the past two seasons due to the reaggravation of a long-term toe injury early in 2023, followed by a quad setback in a pre-season game.

Head of Medical and Conditioning Services Brett Johnson provided insights into the injury statuses of several players, including Cameron Guthrie.

About Guthrie he said:

“Cameron is progressing well in his recovery. Over the next two weeks, he will begin to increase his footy loads and conditioning as he nears his return.”

Zach Tuohy and Toby Conway missed the clash against Sydney due to knee and hip injuries, respectively, but are now both available for selection for Friday night’s match.

In further news from the upside, Mitch Edwards has returned successfully from an injury he suffered in the VFL clash against Sydney two weeks ago, where he made 10 disposals and 11 hit-outs in three quarters of the game.
