Collingwood Magpies set to rival two clubs for in-demand Sydney Swans forward Logan McDonald
The Collingwood Magpies are reportedly set to rival two clubs for in-demand Sydney Swans forward Logan McDonald. The Magpies are interested in their former fan as a replacement for aging Mason Cox (33) and Brody Mihocek (31), and also as support for Dan McStay who is recovering from an ACL injury.
McDonald is also attracting interest from Hawthorn Hawks and the Fremantle Dockers, with the Victorian clubs offering almost $200,000 above Sydney's renewal offer.
Herald Sun journalist Sam Landsberger said on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle about Logan McDonald's speculation news:
“Logan McDonald I think is a name they are circling. He’s from Western Australia, but it’s three hours south of Perth at Dunsborough. He grew up a Collingwood supporter, I think he would be a dream fit for Collingwood and they’re gong to have a red hot crack at him.”
Although Collingwood Magpies do not get the first-round pick this year because of the Lachie Schultz trade, Landsberger believes the new AFL regulation that will allow clubs to trade draft picks two years in advance will help Collingwood seal this deal.
“The secret ingredient here is the fact the AFL is about to enable clubs to trade two years of future draft picks. If that gets ticked off for this year’s off-season, which a lot of clubs think will happen, I reckon that gives them the artillery to get a trade done. Go to the Swans with (Collingwood’s) suite of 2025 and 2026 picks, I think that’s the key that could unlock a potential trade," he added.

Collingwood Magpies target Logan McDonald says he wants to remain in Sydney. The 22-year-old forward, who joined the Swans as pick number four in the 2020 National Draft, spoke to the media earlier in the season and said he was happy at the club.
“It (Sydney) is not too dissimilar - I call it Perth on steroids. I've loved my time here.” McDonald said (via afl.com.au). I'm happy here. Ever since I've stepped foot in here, the club's been so welcoming to me and my family.”
“They've put a lot of time in my development and helping me become the player that I am today. I've got a lot of growth to do and I'm just trying to repay them with my faith. I'm happy where I am. I'll just leave the contract stuff with my manager and the club to work through.”
With Errol Gulden and James Rowbottoms’ deals done, McDonald said it was a smart thing for the club to do and that he's happy to remain with his mates.
“It's smart of the club to lock them away. We've got a lot of talent in the room. We're all close mates and we love spending time together at the club each day…we want to stay together…we think that's going to translate best to performance on the field," he added.
The forward crossed the 50th game milestone against Gold Coast in Round Six and has kicked 21 goals from 14 games so far this season, ranking fifth in the Swans list.
