Fremantle wingman Jeremy Sharp still haunted by costly miss against Collingwood - "I'm still thinking about it to be honest"

Fremantle Dockers wingman Jeremy Sharp has admitted he is yet to fully move on from his costly miss in the last match against the Collingwood Magpies. He, however, hopes preparations for the upcoming clash with the Suns will keep him occupied enough to focus on copping a win there.

In the Dockers impressive game against Collingwood three weeks ago, the team rose from 25 points down in the final quarter to a strikingly near victory range. In the last minute, with only about 47 seconds left, Sharp kicked a 25m shot which he narrowly missed. Due to this flop, the match ended in a draw, with scores level at 75-75.

Sharp, speaking in a post-match press conference, said he was still ruing the missed opportunity:

“It was quite a surreal moment. I'm still thinking about it to be honest. I would have loved to have kicked that one. But that's footy. The team was great for me after missing that shot. Let's hope the next opportunity I get I kick it, because I'm sure that feeling would be quite incredible."

Jeremy Sharp has been an important member of the Fremantle Dockers since joining from Gold Coast. After being recruited during the pre-season supplemental selection period, Sharp has demonstrated his value both offensively and defensively.

The 22-year-old only managed 23 games across the four seasons he spent with the Suns, and he was frozen out completely last year in Stuart Dew's last season as coach.

New Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick persuaded Sharp to remain at the club, but the swift wingman was sure in his decision to return home to Perth. This season alone, Sharp has thrived across the 13 games he has played for Fremantle.

Sharp is eager to play in Sunday's home match against Gold Coast. It is one he “pencilled" since the beginning of the season. He further said at the press conference:

“I can't wait. It's one I pencilled in earlier in the year. I've had a few messages from my best mate Wil Powell. I get to face up on him, and I can't wait. I'm sure there'll be words exchanged on the field. For now it's all friendly, but I'm sure they'll start heating up through the week."

On Sunday, Will Powell will return from his five-match suspension. During Gold Coast’s loss to Brisbane last month, Powell made a homophobic slur and received a hefty ban for it. Sharp spoke of the suspension and his mate’s return. He said:

"It was tough for him. He's just had a young kid, so he's been able to spend a lot of time with his young family. He's also been able to focus on his body and getting that all right again. I'm sure he'll be hungry and ready to play again, back in his home state."

Two weeks after the Fremantle Dockers thumped the Melbourne Demons by 92 points, they suffered a disappointing 67-point loss to the Western Bulldogs on Saturday and now hope for retribution in Sunday’s game against Gold Coast.
