Geelong Cats star remains hopeful despite career-ending injury fears - "I am still pretty optimistic"
Geelong Cats star player Tom Hawkins remains optimistic despite suffering a career-ending injury in a recent match. The Cats faced the Carlton Blues on Friday night when Hawkins injured his left foot.
He had previously undergone surgery on his left leg and has injured it again. However, Hawkins has decided to remain hopeful about his game and is determined to continue playing with the same dedication.
He said (via AFL.com):
"(It's) a bit disappointing, but I am still pretty optimistic. I'm always pretty optimistic about life in general. Once I find out the information I will put together a little bit of a plan."
"I can respect that there is interest with age and current form, but it (whether it's the end of his season or career) is far from my mind at the moment," he added.
The Blues dominated the match against the Geelong Cats and secured an easy victory. They scored 138 points while Geelong managed only 75.
Geelong Cats' Patrick Dangerfield gives an update on Tom Hawkins' injury
Tom Hawkins's teammate Patrick Dangerfield shared an update on his injury. He revealed they had done a few scans and hoped the results would be out soon.
Dangerfield said (via AFL.com):
"We were able to get scans over the weekend, but there's a bit of complexity around it. It's a question for our medicos and for really experienced people in that industry, and we haven't quite got those opinions yet."
"There's a fair bit to work through. Tom's had a history with that foot, so that adds to the complication and challenges with understanding scans when there's a fair bit happening there already. We'll get a greater picture of that today, tomorrow, and potentially the back end of the week," he added.
It was not a good day for Patrick Dangerfield either. Following his clash with Carlton Blues' Sam Walsh, he earned a suspension from the Geelong Cats' upcoming match against the Essendon Bombers.
During a tackle between the two, Walsh's head hit the turf, resulting in Dangerfield's suspension. However, the AFL star has challenged the decision in tribunal and is looking forward to the hearing.
