Highly-coveted ruckman signs new four-year deal with Gold Coast to end exit speculation - "He has shown patience and maturity"

Gold Coast ruckman Ned Moyle has committed to the Suns with a four-year contract extension, which will see him playing for the club till 2028.

The in-demand ruckman had previously received interest from Adelaide, Collingwood and St Kilda, but his love for the Suns and his mentorship under Suns captain Jarrod Witts have kept him at Carrara.

Ned Moyle was taken in the 2021 mid-season draft. The 22-year-old was named in the VFL Team of the Year in 2022 and played a significant role in the club’s 2023 VFL premiership, securing 73 hitouts in their Grand Final success against Werribee.

The Suns are pleased with Moyle’s continued presence at the club. GC Suns General Manager of Player Talent and Strategy Craig Cameron has also expressed his pleasure at the news, saying,

“Ned has shown that he has what it takes to compete at the AFL level.
“He has shown patience and maturity to develop his ruck craft and take the opportunity to learn from one of the best ruckmen in the league in Jarrod Witts."

Ned Moyle set to fill Gold Coast Suns co-captain Jarrod Witts' shoes

This deal suggests that Ned Moyle’s future remains at Gold Coast, which is not surprising considering he’s being prepared to be the successor to co-captain Jarod Witts in the ruck.

The Suns skipper eagerly took Moyle under his wing after noticing his burning desire to help the club rise up the rankings.

In a comment to Fox Footy reporters, Moyle said,

“I honestly love playing at the Gold Coast Suns and wanted to remain loyal and show what I can do in the AFL in the coming years.
“My aim is to be a consistent AFL ruckman, and being able to work with Jarrod and learn all the intricacies of ruck-craft off him everyday has been an incredible development opportunity that I wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else."

Moyle has filled in for Witts in four AFL matches this year and has put up remarkable performances each time, displaying his brilliant ruck craft and high-level skill in the middle of the ground. In total, he has six career matches.
