Veteran defender Robbie Fox signs new contract with Sydney Swans - "I feel right at home at this footy club"

Veteran Sydney Swans defender Robbie Fox has signed a new contract with the footy club. The 31-year-old's contract was set to run out by the end of the current campaign, but the club has handed a one-year extension, keeping him until the end of 2025.

Fox has been an all-rounder for the Swans since his debut in 2017. The versatile defender has been deployed in every position possible on the ground playing as a defender, a defensive forward, a lockdown defender, and a tagger.

Speaking on his contract renewal, Fox revealed he was pleased to have added an extra year to his contract and was happy playing for Sydney where he feels at home. He said (via Zero Hanger):

"I just love where this group is heading, so I'm really pleased to have added another year on my contract. I feel right at home at this footy club. I love the lads I play with, and the coaching staff have been excellent for my development so I'm really grateful to them as well."
"I think we're on the right track and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can build together," he added.

Sydney Swans Executive General Manager, Leon Cameron also emphasized Fox's importance in the team, citing his versatility as a key ingredient to the footy club.

"As we've seen over the past couple of seasons, Robbie offers the coaching staff a lot of flexibility in the roles he can play. Robbie is also one of those players who puts team success first, so he's happy to do any role which is given to him, which is something we value highly."
"I look forward to seeing what Robbie can deliver with this group in the next couple of seasons," Fox added.

Fox has made 96 appearances and kicked 13 goals for the 10-time premiers. He will hope to mark this contract extension with a premiership title at the end of the campaign as the Swans continue to ride high in 2024.
