Who is Logan Morris? Brisbane Lions rising star earns AFL Rising Star tag for stellar display in Round 15

Brisbane Lions newcomer Logan Morris earned an AFL Rising Star nomination with stellar display in Round 15 match against Port Adelaide. The 19 year-old, who was selected as pick #31 in the 2023 national Draft, debuted against the Gold Coast Suns and has not missed a game since scoring 13 goals and making six goal assists in that time.

His display for the Brisbane Lions this past Saturday earned him the Rising Star nomination for the round when he kicked two goals, plus one goal assist and six score involvements from nine disposals in a very dominant display.

“It's awesome playing in that forward line with amazing players like Charlie (Cameron), Eric (Hipwood) and Joey (Daniher).” Morris told AFL.com.au.
"We work on a lot of connection stuff and leading patterns each week, which has definitely been showing on game day. I think we're gelling well.”
“I think a big focus for our forward line is playing selfless footy. If I 'm getting goal assists, I think that will keep my spot in the team more than if I'm kicking goals.”
“Over the last seven games, that's the mentality I've had, to set the big boys up, block for them, and get my teammates involved.” Morris said.

Champion Data statistics shows that with just 55 career disposals, Morris’ 34 score involvements (including 20 shots at goal) means 61.8 per cent of his possessions finish in a score, putting him at the third-highest strike rate in the League with only Oscar Allen (72.7) and Joel Amartey(61.9) having more.

Morris' nomination makes him the second Brisbane Lions youngster to be nominated for the award after teammate Kai Lohmann was nominated in Round 10 against Richmond Tigers for his five goal haul.

Logan Morris who has become an important part of the Brisbane Lions front line since his debut earlier in the season has received praise from the club's General Manager of Football Danny Daly following his Rising Star nomination.

The composed forward was praised for putting in the work and making the most of the chances he has been given at the senior level.

According to the club's official website, Daly said:

“Logan is a prime example of what happens when you put in the work and then take the opportunity by the horns when it comes your way.” Daly said.
“It was a bit of a sliding doors moments for Logan with the way he made his debut, due to an injury in the pre-game warm-up, but he has made the absolute most of it.”
“He is an impressive young player who has been a great addition to our team and really complemented our forward line.” He said.
“Logan has done everything that’s been asked of him by the coaches, particularly our forward coach Murray Davis, and he is reaping the benefits for that.”

Daly believes that Morris has benefitted immensely from All-Australian Charlie Cameron's mentorship in his short time with the senior Brisbane Lions.

“Since arriving at the club, Charlie has really taken Logan under his wing to teach him the forward craft and help him through his own experiences.” He said.
“To learn from one of the game’s best forwards in Charlie Cameron is an experience not every player gets, and there’s no doubt it is helping Logan play the way he is.”
