Who is Lachie Ash? Exciting young talent commits future to Western Sydney Giants with new two-year contract 

Lachie Ash is an AFL star who currently plays for the Greater Western Sydney Giants. The young talent recently extended his contract and is committed to playing for the club for two more years.

Ash was born on June 21, 2001, in Katandra, Victoria. He started playing at a very young age and participated in the Auskick program, which is designed for children aged 5-12 to teach them the basic skills of the game.

He played football at the junior level with the Katandra Football Club and joined the Shepparton Football Club for the senior level. Lachie Ash enjoyed a successful career at the junior level and represented Vic Country at the AFL Under-18 Championships, where he played two seasons in 2018 and 2019.

After a successful stint at the junior level, Ash made his debut for the Giants in 2020. He was the fourth pick of the 2019 National Draft. Ash played his first match against the Western Bulldogs during the third round of the 2020 season. In the match, he made seven disposals and three marks to start his career.

In his debut season, he played in 12 tournaments and recorded one goal, with a disposal average of 11.3 per game. In 2021, he enjoyed a fabulous season with the team, competing in 23 matches with a disposal average of 17 per game. So far, Lachie Ash has played in 86 events and scored six goals, with a disposal average of 17.3 per game.


"Our emerging leader" - Jason McCartney opens up about Lachie Ash

Western Sydney Giants executive general manager Jason McCartney spoke about Lachie Ash after the AFL star extended his contract with the team. He called him their "emerging leader" and congratulated him for securing a two-year contract with the team.

McCartney said (via GWSGiants.com):

"Lachie was already contracted until the end of next year, so to have him re-commit for a further two years is just fantastic for him and the club. Lachie is in our Emerging Leaders group and has really developed into a key player in our side and one of the competition’s best young rebounding defenders.
“Lachie has shown to be an extremely damaging player for us and one that we see as a big piece of our future as we strive for the ultimate success," he added.

It is important to note that in addition to Lachie Ash, Sam Taylor, Aaron Cadman, and Jesse Hogan also secured deals with the Giants.
