Did Jim Harbaugh offer Colin Kaepernick a job? Ex-49ers QB sets the record straight over Chargers rumors
Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been out of the NFL since the conclusion of the 2016 season and has tried multiple times to return to the league.
Recently, there was speculation that his former NFL coach and now Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh offered him a job on the Chargers' coaching staff.
Earlier this year, Harbaugh spoke to USA Today and said that he reached out to Kaepernick about potentially joining the team's coaching staff. Shortly after he spoke with Kaepernick though, Harbaugh announced that he wouldn't be on their coaching staff or roster this season.
Appearing on 'The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon' earlier this week, Kaepernick was asked if he was offered a coaching job from Harbaugh. He quickly shut down those rumors.
“It is not true,” said Kaepernick. “I found out the same way everyone else did — on social media. I was like, ‘Oh, I got a coaching offer.’ No, no coaching offer.”
Kaepernick was then asked if he would be interested in coaching, to which he said he'd rather play, or devote his time elsewhere.
“No interest in coaching. I need the adrenaline rush of playing and being in it, or I think I can have more impact in other places with my time.”
Kaepernick then revealed that he is looking to join the 2028 U.S. Olympic football team as part of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Kaepernick told Sky Sports:
"Hopefully we’ll be out there. We’re gonna work on some things, see if we can make it in there. But we’d love to be out there.”
How good was Colin Kaepernick in the NFL?
Colin Kaepernick played in the NFL for six seasons, from 2011-2016 for the San Francisco 49ers.
In that time, he led the 49ers to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2012 and 2013 and went to the Super Bowl in 2012, where the 49ers lost 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens. The next season, Kaepernick went 12-4 as a starter.
He struggled in his last two seasons, going 3-16 in them as a starter. In his career, he threw for 12,271 yards, 72 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions while rushing for 2,300 yards and 13 touchdowns.
In his career, Colin Kaepernick had a 28-30 regular season record and a 4-2 postseason record. He was never named to a Pro Bowl or All-Pro selection but has the NFL record for most rush yards by a quarterback in a single game with 181.
