Akutami's new Jujutsu Kaisen art takes back the series to its roots
Jujutsu Kaisen's art style was progressive, but it wasn't consistent across all characters. While characters like Gojo Satoru hardly had their character designs changed by Gege Akutami, others, such as Nobara and Choso, had their designs entirely changed by the end of the series. Since the series concluded, Gege has continued to draw illustrations, with a recent one being particularly special.
As shared by an X user (@Go_lover), Gege Akutami's recent illustration was to commemorate the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 volume as it featured three of its main characters. This artwork not only took fans back to the series' beginning but also highlighted how the author managed to mimic the beginning art style while drawing the latest illustration.

Jujutsu Kaisen: What is the latest illustration by Gege Akutami?
The series' latest illustration featured the main characters from the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 volume. On the left side was Geto Suguru with the cursed tool Playful Cloud, while on the right side were Gojo and Rika, and in the middle was Yuta Okkotsu with his katana. The illustration might be part of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, Geto Suguru's plan to eradicate the Jujutsu Tech.
For this purpose, he released 100 demons from his cursed technique (Cursed Spirit Manipulation) and put them against Gojo and his allies. Fortunately, Gojo sent Panda and Inumaki back to Jujutsu Tech because Geto was not on the main battlefield and was trying his best to capture Yuta. Ultimately, after a fierce battle, Geto lost against the special-grade sorcerer.
During his fight against Yuta, he used the special-grade cursed tool, the Playful Cloud (which could be seen in the latest illustration). Another interesting detail about this illustration was how its art style resembled the old one when Gege drew everyone a little bit younger.
Reaction from fans
While the fandom appreciated Gege's talent for tracing his old art style in the latest illustration, some fans weren't ready to believe that this was the author's work due to how different it appeared. This skepticism was expected, given how fans had gotten used to the latest art style. However, the illustration was indeed from the author.
Moreover, some fans criticized the colors used in the latest illustration, noting that they were lighter than the usual ones used in the series' character designs. Lastly, one fan brought back old memories by stating that the author could draw a new illustration with different colors but wouldn't change the 'rushed' ending of the series.
"This is NOT gege’s art why does it look different," a fan said.
"I always love seeing GOAT Gege’s art. The details on the folds of their clothes and faces. He’s art is always dynamic. I will be there for his next manga," another one said.
"Time for jjk fans to insult gege for experimenting with his style and colors," one fan commented.
"Oh so he can make art but not rewrite the ending," another one claimed.
Final thoughts
Since the climax of Jujutsu Kaisen, the author has been putting out numerous illustrations, hinting that his next project might be related to his magnum opus. This might satisfy the fandom's cravings, as they are eager to learn more about the backstories of different characters.
