All 102 Hunter × Hunter Nen users and their Nen types- A complete list
Nen allows Hunter × Hunter characters to control and use their own life energy to develop unique techniques. Since its introduction during the Heavens Arena Arc, Nen has been portrayed as the most important power in the fictional world shaped by Yoshihiro Togashi. Nen is the epitome of the user’s willpower, which explains why some Nen abilities require self-imposed stipulations to be activated or strengthened.
Ten, Zetsu, Ren, and Hatsu are the four basic Nen skills. These allow the user to shroud their body in the aura, suppress their aura to the point of stopping its flow, use their aura to increase their power output and unleash it to perform special techniques, respectively. These basic skills lead to more advanced applications such as Gyo, In, En, Shu, Ko, Ken, and Ryu. Notably, Nen can even survive after their user’s death, resulting in post-mortem Nen.
There are six primary types of Nen, and each Hunter × Hunter character is born with a different type. After learning their aura type, a Nen novice can learn the basics to develop their peculiar techniques and eventually become a Nen master. Each Nen user has the potential to be 100% effective at using their natural Nen type. Characters can also use Nen abilities other than their natural aura type, but they will be less effective at using them.

Every confirmed Nen type of Hunter × Hunter characters
Enhancement
Enhancers can use their aura to augment the natural properties of their bodies or objects, greatly increasing their power output to maximize their attack, defense, and overall effectiveness. The most balanced Nen type, Enhancement, is also the most common, with its users making up 27% of the people in the Hunter × Hunter world.
Enhancement allows its users to become formidable fighters by exploiting simple yet powerful abilities, as seen with Gon Freecss and Uvogin, whose respective signature techniques are Jajanken and Big Bang Impact. Killua Zoldyck uses his aura to fully replicate the properties of electricity. At the same time, Hisoka Morow’s signature Bungee Gum combines the characteristics of rubber and gum to make his aura incredibly sticky and elastic. Emission
Emitters can release their aura, shooting it out in the form of projectiles, beams, and the like. This allows them to perform long-range attacks to affect their opponents at a distance. Emission is rather common in the Hunter × Hunter world, as it’s the primary type for 24% of the population.
Emission techniques mainly involve direct attacking moves, such as Silva’s Explosive Orbs and Zeno’s Dragon Head. They are also used for more complex purposes, such as creating puppets, channeling Nen into music, and even performing teleportation.
In particular, Knov can use his Emission-type Nen to open portals leading to an artificial Nen dimension. This allows him to move at will, trap his enemies, and even warp away parts of their bodies to kill them instantly.
As of Hunter × Hunter chapter 410, the confirmed Emitters in the series are:

Conjuration
Conjuration is very similar to Transmutation, to the point where these two Nen types are often confused. However, there is a distinct difference between them. While Transmuters use their aura to mimic the properties of an element or a substance, Conjurers change their aura to physically create a fully material object.
The conjured objects can have supernatural abilities of the most varied types. Master Conjurers can materialize and dispel an item of their choice instantly, increase the durability of the item through self-imposed conditions, and alter its length and size. Conjurers are quite rare, making up only 15% of the Hunter × Hunter world’s population.
Techniques based on Conjuration are often complex and subject to strict limitations. The finest example of this is represented by Kurapika’s formidable chains. Kaito also strengthened the power of Crazy Slot, his ability to conjure unique weapons, by imposing a series of precise conditions on their use.

Manipulation
Like Conjurers, Manipulators make up about 15% of the Hunter × Hunter world’s population. They can use their Nen to control both living beings and non-living things. Depending on their unique techniques, Manipulators can control the bodies of their opponents and even their own bodies.
However, Manipulation techniques can’t be used to take control of a target that is already being manipulated by another Nen user. Aside from that, Manipulation is extremely dangerous for its subtle effects, which are typically activated by using an object as a medium. Illumi Zoldyck relies on needles, while the late Phantom Troupe member Shalnark used a weird bat-shaped mobile phone.
As of Hunter × Hunter chapter 410, the confirmed Manipulators in the series are:
- 1) Baise - She was a bodyguard for the Nostrade Family.

Specialization
Specialization is the rarest Nen type in Hunter × Hunter. According to Morena Prudo’s data, it’s the primary type of only 0.033% of the population. Specialization is also the vaguest type of Nen, as it lacks a precise definition but merely encompasses all the abilities not included in the other categories.
Normally, a Nen user has the potential to be 100% efficient with their natural Nen type, and respectively 80%, 60%, and 40% efficient with the other Nen types, depending on how those types interact with their primary type on the Nen category chart. However, Specialization can’t be used this way, as one can either use it or can’t.
There are no half-measures, as Specialization is only available to those who can use it to the fullest. This includes those born with it or those who somehow change their primary Nen types to become Specialists. When his eyes turn scarlet due to the Kurta Clan’s innate power, Kurapika becomes a Specialist capable of using all the types of Nen with 100% efficiency in terms of force and accuracy of his techniques.
Specialists can combine multiple Nen types without being subjected to the same limitations as other Nen users. Due to their unique effects, it’s safe to say that Specialization-based techniques are the most unpredictable. For example, Chrollo Lucilfer can use a technique called Skill Hunter to steal the Nen abilities of others and use them as his own.
As of Hunter × Hunter chapter 410, the confirmed Specialists in the series are:
- 1) Alluka Zoldyck - Killua Zoldyck’s beloved little sister.
- 2) Borksen - A Provisional Hunter enlisted in the Kakin Empire’s army.

- 7) Meleoron - A Chimera Ant squadron leader who befriended Gon.
- 8) Morena Prudo - The leader of the Heil-Ly Family.
