Bleach TYBW part 3 episode 11 recap

The episode begins with a scene from the past, where it is revealed how Shunsui's brother mellowed after his marriage to Nanao's mother. Following the pleasant opening scene, the episode returns to the present and shows Lille Barro emerging from the depths after shooting a light beam through Shunsui Kyoraku.

Lille Barro lashes at Shunsui for thinking a Soul Reaper's Bankai can kill him, before transforming into a sinister being. The Sternritter's new form resembles a fusion of a human, a centaur, and an owl. The grotesque creature regenerates his limb and delivers a Divine Judgement in Shunsui's direction.

Shunsui escapes at the right moment to survive the attack. Meanwhile, Ohana advises Shunsui to retreat, since even their Bankai couldn't defeat the monster. Shunsui seemingly obliges and closes his eyes. Just then, Nanao Ise arrives and asks for his Zanpakuto.

Shunsui Kyoraku can't believe Nanao knows about the sword. Meanwhile, Lille Barro appears behind them and is ready to fire another Divine Judgement. However, Shunsui takes Nanao to a shadow realm. When Nanao asks for her Zanpakuto, the Captain Commander summons Kyokotsu.

It is revealed that Ohana gave birth to Kyokotsu to hide Nanao's Zanpakuto at the behest of Nanao's mother. Shunsui explains that the members of the Ise clan are matrilineal. Hence, they adopt men from other families as their sons-in-law. However, men who married into the Ise family died prematurely.

Many merely shrugged it off as a joke, but Nanao's mother wasn't the same. She was determined to end the Ise Curse, so she left her clan and married into another family. Nanao's mother happened to marry Shunsui's older brother. However, she couldn't escape her fate, as her husband died shortly after their marriage.

Nanao's mother returned to the Ise clan and speculated her clan's sacred weapon must be the root of the curse. She desperately wanted to save her unborn daughter from the fated curse. Hence, she entrusted the sword to Shunsui to hide. Nanao's mother's actions of misplacing the sword led her to be executed on Central 46's orders.

After learning the truth, Nanao chooses to embrace the curse. Although she acknowledges her mother's wish, she wants to protect the man she admires the most (Shunsui). Nanao knows the man will shrug off the curse as a joke. Shunsui understands Nanao's resolve and hands over the blade.

According to the episode, the sword's name is Shinken Hakkyoken. It is a sword, mainly used for ritualistic purposes. Hence it doesn't have a sharp end. Moreover, the blade is passed on from one generation to another. According to the legends, the sword can withstand a God's attack and disperse it in all directions.

Wielding the blade, Nanao emerges from the shadows and attacks Lille Barro. The move cuts off one of Lille's limbs. Hence, the Sternritter decides to end it all with his strongest move. Nanao, who hasn't held a blade before, shudders in fear. That's when Shunsui Kyoraku guides her from behind. He helps Nanao hold the blade and instill confidence in her.

Nanao recalls the time her captain saved her from all sorts of situations. Besides, she also remembers the time she spent at the academy when she first saw Shunsui Kyoraku. Meanwhile, Lille Barro creates a gigantic trumpet and blows it. However, Nanao Ise's Shinken Hakkyoken reflects the attack to cut Lille Barro in half.

The Messenger of God recalls Nanao saying how the sword can reflect a God's powers. As Lille Barro's body disintegrates, Shunsui and Nanao breathe a sigh of relief. The Captain Commander wants to join the others, but he runs out of stamina. The episode ends with Shunsui realizing they should catch a quick breath.
