Boruto's story may need Himawari to die to reach its full potential

Boruto has gained a lot of praise in the last year or so with the Two Blue Vortex time-skip. One of the characters who benefitted the most was Himawari Uzumaki, especially because of her new connection with Kurama. However, there is a strong argument to be made that her death would be the step needed in the story to take the quality of the manga to the next level.

Many people struggled to take Boruto seriously due to the lack of consequences and stakes, which is why a few major characters dying would be a step in the right direction. In such a case, Himawari's death would make sense because of the ramifications it could have on the rest of the cast, especially now due to her new powers.

Explaining why Himawari might have to die in Boruto

A major need for the story is to have greater stakes and a lot more consequences, which is something that has affected this sequel since its beginning. While Naruto and Hinata are sealed and Sasuke is trapped, they can be brought back, which dampens the tension and could be fixed with Himawari Uzumaki's death.

This might strike some people as a random decision to make but it would have a lot of ramifications on the cast. It would particularly be so with the protagonist since the loss of his little sister could affect him even more after becoming a pariah because of Kawaki. If Hinata and Naruto return to the story, the loss of their daughter could define their role in the series moving forward.

It is also worth pointing out that Jura had an interest in Himawari because she was the new jinchuriki of Kurama, so he could be the one taking her life. If that happens, it could also raise Jura's threat level since he would have taken down a major character and the new vessel of the Kyubi, at that.

The importance of Himawari in the story

Despite being Boruto's younger sister and Naruto and Hinata's daughter, Himawari Uzumaki had a rather small role in the series. However, author Masashi Kishimoto fixed this in Two Blue Vortex by not just making her the next vessel of Kurama but also the target of the main antagonist thus far, Jura.

However, there is no denying that everything surrounding Himawari's character thus far is rooted in potential and needs to be fixed by having her contribute more to the story in an efficient manner. This is similar to Sarada Uchiha, who is also described as one of the main characters of the series but is yet to make a solid impact on the plot.

Final thoughts

Everything in Boruto Two Blue Vortex has indicated that Himawari is going to have a major role to play in the series moving forward. However, the possibility of her death would make a major difference in the series while also raising the stakes, which is something that needs this sequel needs.
