Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17: Yodo and Araya join Konohamaru's plan
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17, titled Wild Beast Cubs, opened with Sarada feeling troubled after thinking back to what Sumire said about being inconsiderate of others' feelings. She was a bit shaken by the words but promised that she would focus.
As for Yodo, she immediately identified Matsuri as a Sensory-Type Shinju, meaning that they only had a little time to start executing their plan. However, just before that, Yodo again confirmed with Konohamaru whether obtaining Ryu's Thorn Soul Bulb would help save Shinki. Upon receiving an affirmative response, Yodo prepared herself to partake in the mission. Araya tried warning her not to make any reckless decisions but was instantly shut down by Yodo.
Despite having doubts about the plan, the Shinobi proceeded with it. Konohamaru, Sarada, and Mitsuki approached the Divine Trees under the pretense that they did not know who they were. The three Shinobi pretended they were looking for the rebel Boruto and proposed a team-up with the Divine Trees to track their shared target.
Surprisingly, just as Matsuri saw Konohamaru, she started blushing. She could not handle her emotions and accepted the Shinobi's proposal. These developments saw both parties introduce themselves and start looking for clues on Boruto.
As revealed by Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17, Shikamaru Nara had instructed Konohamaru on this plan. According to the interim Hokage, the Divine Trees were wild beast cubs who weren't inherently evil but were strong enough to impose a threat. Therefore, Shikamaru wanted the Shinobi to become friends with Divine Trees and betray them to collect the Thorn Soul Bulbs. While this was a devious plan, it was necessary for humanity's survival.
As the Shinobi and Divine Trees started looking for clues together, Sarada and Mitsuki managed to separate Ryu from Matsuri. During this, Ryu revealed how Jura spoke highly of Konoha ninjas. He was initially planning to kill every Shinobi in his sight. Thus, he was glad that he chose to speak to them first.
Meanwhile, Konohamaru tried getting close to Matsuri. Shikamaru had informed him that Matsuri had romantic feelings for him. Thus, while it was easy for Konohamaru to execute his part in the mission, it also felt heartless to betray someone by using their emotions against them.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17, then saw Kashin Koji speaking with Eida to learn what was happening in the Hidden Sand Village. While Eida was worried about Mamushi, Koji reassured her that the Divine Tree was at their base.
Just as Eida started looking over the Hidden Sand Village, Boruto asked Koji about the mission's failure percentage. While Koji expressed that it was not that high, Boruto did not believe him. He was nervous for his friends. However, Koji relayed to him that no matter what was to happen, he was not to join the fight. This is because Boruto was also in danger from Jura, similar to Himawari.
Around the same time, Jura invaded Konoha. The Konoha Sensory Team immediately contacted the Hokage, but Shikamaru asked the Shinobi not to engage with Jura and leave him alone. Surprisingly, Jura was visiting Konoha to purchase some books and even paid in cash to cover his current and future purchases.
Elsewhere, Kawaki finally confronted Amado. After learning about the scientist's modifications to his body, he wanted him to draw out his powers to their full extent.
