Chainsaw Man chapter 187: Denji comes up with a new plan as Pochita struggles
Following Pochita’s attempt at launching his heart towards the Aging Devil to get within striking distance of his target, Chainsaw Man chapter 187 was expected to open with their fight. Officially released on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the issue opened up with the pair’s fight continuing, offering some implicit insight into exactly how Pochita’s abilities work.
However, the main highlights of Chainsaw Man chapter 187 are undoubtedly its later developments, which see Pochita and Denji adjust to a new plan on the fly. Excitingly, this seems to be setting up the answer to the question fans have been waiting for regarding the rules of Pochita’s abilities and how long before a Devil can no longer be thrown up.
Chainsaw Man chapter 187 teases another powerful Devil being barfed up by Denji
Chainsaw Man chapter 187 begins with Pochita’s heart being shaped like the Devil, landing in front of the Aging Devil. Aging orders the Public Safety Agents present to stomp it, which former Minister of Finance Tadashi Hasegawa also orders them to do. However, before they act, Denji pulls his ripcord, which causes Pochita’s heart to come alive and start growing limbs, including a chainsaw out of its “head.”
Pochita’s Hero of Hell form is then seen halfway materialized, attacking the Aging Devil as it’s still being formed. Denji first decapitates Aging before cutting off one of its arms. Upon fully forming, Pochita tears through Aging to the shock of the Public Safety Agents present and Hasegawa. However, Aging heals itself immediately, thanking Pochita for the most vivid and powerful pain it has ever experienced.
Chainsaw Man chapter 187 then sees Aging touch Pochita’s face with a finger, adding that he can’t kill it that way as a shot of a tree is seen outside. Shockingly, Pochita is then turned into a tree-like form, not quite as fully as those in the Aging Devil’s world but certainly close to it. This would likewise seemingly suggest that the Aging Devil does have some control over humanity’s tree-ification within its world.
Speaking of, focus then shifts to the Aging Devil’s world, where Denji has already eaten the entirety of one tree-person’s insides. The face on the tree is frozen in an expression of horror and pain while a pool of blood lays on the ground. Denji then looks at other trees in the area, which are shocked beyond belief. However, as Denji approaches a new tree to eat, the Devil Hunter trapped in Aging’s world ridicules him for doing so.
Chainsaw Man chapter 187 sees him argue that Denji doesn’t have a right to kill them since he’s not even 20 years old, yet they’ve lived here for millennia trying to escape. However, Denji is unfazed, instead starting to cut open the tree which the Devil Hunter is hiding behind. Denji then answers that he’s thankful for the food and is eating it “with gusto,” so he’s sure they’ll forgive him.
Denji then prepares to swing at the tree as the Devil Hunter calls him a Devil, pulling his ripcord in the next panel after presumably eating again. Pochita is then seen breaking out of the tree, suggesting that Aging may not have turned him into a tree but rather encased him in one. In any case, Pochita splits Aging’s face in half, but the Primal Fear Devil heals it immediately.
Chainsaw Man chapter 187 sees Aging add that Pochita should hurry up and eat him since he has no other legitimate means of killing him. Pochita is seemingly bothered by this as Denji calls him about throwing up a Devil. He says his stomach is about to burst and that Pochita should make him throw up a useful Devil if he’s struggling. The issue ends with Denji about to throw up whatever Devil Pochita is summoning from within him.
In summation
While short, chapter 187 is nevertheless incredibly exciting, seeing Aging and Pochita’s fight progressing in an exciting and implicitly informative direction. This speaks to both parties, with information on Aging’s powers coming to light in this issue and information about Pochita’s Erasure abilities being set up for the manga’s return. However, the next issue is a ways away, set to be officially released in Japan on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 12 am JST.
