Dandadan chapter 176 recap
Dandadan chapter 176 began with Kouki Yukishiro and the others getting dressed to return to class. Kinta Sakata explained that he gave her a nanoskin hair ornament that functioned as a surveillance camera. They decide to use this to catch whoever gave Kouki the knife to stab Momo when they inevitably contact her again. Meanwhile, Sakata and Jiji speculate on Queen having powers given her ability to heal the former so quickly.
Momo then asked Okarun what was bothering him as Kouki and the others in their friend group walked ahead. He lamented not finding a way to turn her back to normal, apologizing for not being of any use and saying he needs to be the one protecting her, not vice versa. Momo volunteered her grandmother Seiko to train him as the focus shifted to Seiko in a restaurant. She was seen with two of her friends, whose names were later revealed as Payase and Kashimoto.
She gave Payase, a cursed object collector, the trunk from the Danmanra Arc. She then asked Kashimoto if he knew of a way to turn Momo back to normal size. He suggested the uchide-no-kozuchi magic hammer from Japanese folklore, implying that she can find it by going to the shrine of the deity Daikokuten. The issue ended With Seiko thanking them for this information, as they were attacked by a group of what appeared to be jiangshi.
What to expect from Dandadan chapter 177 (speculative)
Dandadan chapter 177 should open up with a continued focus on Seiko as she begins fighting the jiangshi. More likely than not, she’ll be revealed as still inside Kamigoe City, allowing her to use her powers against the jiangshi to fight them. It’s also likely that fans will finally learn exactly where Seiko’s powers originate from, which may explain Kashimo’s comment on her familiarity with uchide-no-kozuchi.
In other words, chapter 177 may start setting up the eventual reveal that Seiko borrows her powers from the deity Daikokuten himself. This would also explain why chapter 176 went out of its way to show a double spread of this shrine as they spoke about this. The issue should end on this reveal, setting up the jiangshi’s defeat and the visiting of Daikokuten’s shrine in the subsequent release.
