Dandadan chapter 177: Seiko struggles vs the jiangshi as her friends reveal their powers
Following Seiko Ayase and her friends Payase and Kashimoto being ambushed by jiangshi, fans expected Dandadan chapter 177 to see an exciting fight break out. Officially released on Monday, December 16, 2024, the installment did indeed see Seiko fight against the jiangshi, but with some additional twists thrown into this development.
One of the most exciting is that another enemy appears for Seiko to deal with, this one seemingly inspired by Greek mythology’s brazen bull based on what’s known so far. However, this leads to another exciting development, which further suggests that the focus will be on Seiko and her allies for the foreseeable future.
Dandadan chapter 177 sees Seiko’s Count Saint-Germain’s allies set their sights on Seiko
Dandadan chapter 177 begins immediately where the last issue ended, with Kashimoto still flying through the air from the hit he and Payase took. Seiko Ayase, however, focuses on the jiangshi, which begins attacking her shortly thereafter.
She easily deflects their blows at first, sending a group of them flying by knocking one into the others. As another one rushes her, she picks up a central air conditioning unit and hucks it at one, telling it to cool its jets.
More jiangshi rush her, with Seiko easily teeing them up for massive hits which incapacitate them for now. She then goes to grab her purse, which another jiangshi also grabs, prompting her to kick it. She continues fighting them with objects around the restaurant as someone else approaches, revealed to be an anthropomorphic metal bull, it sends Seiko flying into a wooden support beam.
Dandadan chapter 177 sees the bull say it can tell Seiko is a master of movement, to which she responds that she’s just an old broad. She throws a teapot at the bull as she does so, to which it says “marvelous” and Seiko thanks it. Seiko then tries to attack the bull, but comments on how hard its body is, which it thanks her for. The bull then explains it’s made of iron and gets stronger the more it’s hit.
Seiko’s face is clearly one of concern here, and rightfully so as the bull rushes at and easily overwhelms her. She’s eventually sent slamming into a wall with a double kick, which the bull follows up by punching her into the ground below. The bull explains that it gets stronger whether she strikes it, it strikes itself, or it strikes her, pummeling Seiko with a flurry of punches as it explains this.
Dandadan chapter 177 sees the bull add that its body gets “hot” in this process, telling Seiko to be careful of this as it squats down on top of and crushes her. This reference seemingly confirms the bull as being based on Greek mythology’s “brazen bull,” a bull made of iron that would be placed over a fire to roast people alive inside. The bull then gets up and comments on how strong it is, asking her to accept her defeat.
As it says this, it begins pulling a knife out of its underwear, the same exact one that Count Saint-Germain gave to Kouki Yukishiro. The bull promises to spare Seiko’s life if she accepts defeat as it does so, with Seiko unconscious on the ground. However, the bull is then knocked back by Payase and Kashimoto, which also sends the jiangshi flying and successfully rouses Seiko from her slumber.
As they do so, the two’s auras form a yin-yang symbol, with the two calling the jiangshi unbelievable for kicking them and risking damaging the cursed object Seiko gave them. Dandadan chapter 177 ends with each utilizing their spiritual powers. Payase’s entire body transforms into a shadowy creature, while Kashimoto seemingly summons a phoenix-like spirit to fight alongside him.
In summation
Overall, Dandadan chapter 177 is both an exciting and informative issue that continues setting up the series’ current arc and what will transpire within. This is primarily done via confirmation that Count Saint-Germain is indeed targeting Seiko and her allies, who also apparently have powers of their own. While details are still unclear, Tatsu is clearly building towards a very exciting confrontation between Momo and Okarun’s group, and Saint-Germain and his allies.
