Danmachi season 5 episode 9: Ryu brings chaos to Folkvangr, Horn pleads with Bell to save Syr/Freya
Danmachi season 5 episode 9 begins with a scene at the Folkvangr, where Bell Cranel is convinced he belongs to the Hestia Familia. He doesn't want to waver anymore. However, he doesn't know what to do, fearing Freya may observe right away that he has changed.
Besides, he can't fathom how everyone has forgotten only Syr. Just then in Danmachi season 5 episode 9, Bell Cranel hears a loud explosion down the building. Suddenly, Heith and others barge into his room, asking if he's fine. Heith implores Bell not to venture outside at any cost.
She reveals someone alone has breached their defenses and infiltrated into the Folkvangr. Bell can't believe a lone person can breach Freya Familia's mansion. The narrative switches downstairs, where Ryu goes berserk, destroying everything in her path.
Although she doesn't find it easy, the elf defeats a group of Freya Familia adventurers with sheer might. According to Danmachi season 5 episode 9, Horn disguised as Syr broke Ryu's shackles and requested her to wreak havoc in the mansion. Since Horn's words sound like Syr, Ryu feels it's something she must do.
Elsewhere, Bell Cranel feels somebody has in all likelihood come to save him. That's why Heith requested him not to leave his room and station two guards. Bell looks out of the window for a while, then suddenly the two guards fall to the ground. The boy realizes someone has knocked them unconscious.
He decides to follow them outside. Danmachi season 5 episode 9 subtly reveals it's Hedin who helped Bell. However, the episode doesn't reveal the reason. Meanwhile, Van informs Allen that the person they appointed at Babel has vanished.
Elsewhere in Orario, Aishia and the members of the Hermes Familia finish distributing the firewood. Lulune detects a strange smell of blood coming from the logs. Aishia jokingly says it's probably due to someone committing a crime with those logs.
Following that, Danmachi season 5 episode 9 switches to Bell Cranel, who enters a lavish yet eerily empty hall. He observes Horn waiting for her. Horn approaches Bell and asks how much he knows. Bell confesses the truth, telling her that he knows about him being from the Hestia Familia.
Horn then asks Bell how much he has noticed, but he doesn't understand what she's trying to say. Bell Cranel's confusion irks Horn, as berates her for being dense. She hurls accusations, calling Bell a "filth of humanity." She charges at Bell with the Hestia knife, while asking why he rejected her Goddess, especially when she has all the charms.
Torn between the strong feelings of love and hatred, Horn breaks down emotionally. She fears Freya won't ever be saved. Horn further reveals how she wanted to save her Goddess from being vulnerable. She felt killing Bell Cranel would have saved Freya from stooping low.
However, since she shares the Goddess' feelings, Horn knows she can't help her feelings. With tears in her eyes, she reveals how badly Freya is hurting and suffering due to Bell's constant rejection. She also feels it's pointless if Bell doesn't understand it himself.
Just then in Danmachi season 5 episode 9, Bell Cranel recalls her moments with Syr. He finally realizes Horn and Syr are both Syr. Horn is glad that Bell has comprehended the truth. She hands him over the Hestia knife and plunges herself against it. Horn wants to take responsibility for going against her Goddess' will, as she pleads with Bell to take care of Freya/Syr's feelings.
At that moment, Horn uses Vana Seith to transform into her Syr persona. She implores Bell to save her. The boy holds Syr's hands and promises to save her, even if it means hurting her again. Elsewhere in Folkvangr, Goddess Freya learns about Horn's condition from their shared consciousness. She orders Ottar to spare her.
Danmachi season 5 episode 9: Bell confronts Freya, Hestia turns Orario into her altar
Elsewhere in Orario, Goddess Hestia is seen selling potato fritters. She glances sideways and observes Asfi's presence. Meanwhile, Bell Cranel runs into the hallway, with the injured Horn in his arms. Ottar steps in and tells him to put her down. He assures he won't cause her harm, since it's Goddess Freya's orders.
Following that in Danmachi season 5 episode 9, Bell Cranel enters Freya's room. He interrogates Freya about Syr. Although the Goddess accepts Syr's existence, she says it was only a persona she used to role-play with Ryu and others. However, Bell Cranel refuses to accept it.
She knows Syr's tears weren't false. Yet, she reminds her that Bell rejected Syr. Freya even breaks the accessory she bought as Syr from outside the cathedral during their date. However, Bell doesn't want to believe Syr's passionate confession was a lie.
Bell Cranel's passionate outburst turns Freya red in embarrassment. Just then in Danmachi season 5 episode 9, Bell experiences a sharp burn. Freya realizes the status she overwrote on Bell is burning off. Suddenly, she looks outside. Orario turns red, as everyone is engulfed in flames.
Strangely, the flames don't burn anyone. Danmachi season 5 episode 9 switches to Ouranos, who informs Fels that no one can put out the spreading flames. He knew Hermes was aware he gave Hestia a piece of advice. That's why, Ouranos entrusted the Hermes Familia to distribute firewood all over Orario.
Normally, the wood itself isn't anything special. However, along the way, Hestia's blood, Ichor, was dropped to the wood. The episode shifts to Hermes, who is glad how things have turned out. According to Danmachi season 5 episode 9, Hermes collected Hestia's blood and added a single drop to every log.
Meanwhile, Asfi takes Hestia to Babel's rooftop. Concurrently, the episode reveals Ouranos's monologue. The ancient God believes Orario would have lost its meaning under Freya's charm. If it remained her sandbox, the city wouldn't give birth to new heroes anymore, and the world would have perished.
The narrative for Danmachi season 5 episode 9 then switches the perspective to Hestia, who reveals how her powers are insignificant in the mortal realm. However, if there's an altar is prepared, she can demonstrate her powers. The Ichor dripping from the firewood in the fireplace acts as the intermediary, and the bright light bathing Orario turns the city into her temple.
Danmachi season 5 episode 9 then shows a bewildering spectacle, as Hestia, the Virgin Goddess, envelopes Orario with her Sacred Flames: Dios Aedes Vesta. Hestia's flames dispels Goddess Freya's charms, as everyone comes to their senses, including Ais who comes to Ryu's rescue.
Elsewhere in Hestia's mansion, Liliruca, Haruhime, and Mikoto, lament over how they treated Bell Cranel. Welf says there's still time to make things right, urging everyone to bring back Bell. Everyone in Orario are disgusted by Freya's act.
Meanwhile, Hestia breaks through Folkvangr's window and hugs Bell. Freya realizes her plan has failed. While she commends Hestia's efforts, she doesn't give up. Danmachi season 5 episode 9 ends with Freya challenging Hestia to a War Game.
